Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg shifted part of the blame for the recent derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in Ohio on the Trump administration reversing a little-known safety rule. Buttigieg noted Tuesday evening that his agency had taken a series of steps to improve rail safety through "historic investments," but said it was constrained by the Trump administration action. In 2018, the Department of Transportation (DOT) withdrew a rule proposed three years earlier requiring trains carrying certain dangerous chemicals to utilize electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brakes, saying the technology's benefits were inconclusive.

As for the info about the trains and operations, all 100% true and verifiable. The numbers of derailments went through the roof under the new “business model”. And Norfolk Southern decided to copy it, so they could make more money.
And let me toss one more thing in there, for everyone. The Feds, FRA, DOT were(I don’t know if it was ever implemented) pushing “Positive Train Control”. The activation of the switches from one track to another, usually near industries and the spurs. For years the train had to be stopped and someone had to get out and manipulate the switch. Train passes by, switch gets put back and then that guy has to walk up to the locomotive to get back on.
Enter the push for ‘positive train control’. Being able to manipulate the switches remotely. Most folks have no idea what is being transported by those trains. Very, very very very deadly stuff, that can only be transported by train.
And the railroads were on board with it because it was one less person they had to hire, pay and give benefits to.
Now, implement a system where someone can manipulate a switch remotely. Think things like what happened in Ohio, or Lac Megantic in Canada that took out most of a town, or something like Bhopal, India when a couple of chlorine cars are breached.

Kind of makes one wonder if the Biden bunch didn’t hold off doing anything about rail safety until something happened that could somehow be blamed on Trump.
I think Joey and Pete should make a trip to Ohio and visit the disaster area, drink some spigot water, walk the streets. This will assure the people it is safe.
I don’t doubt what you’re saying. That’s not right for the rail workers or the millions of people that live near the tracks. What I’m wondering is if there may be something intentional going on here, since there are so many accidents in such a short period of time.

From a radio interview with the Congressman from this area, an axle on the train quit working due to bearing failure several miles before the derailment site. ECP would not have affected this train derailment.
I can’t speak to “terrorism or sabotage”.
But, longer and heavier trains on tracks not designed for the length and weight. Fewer workers to perform inspections and do the maintenance.
When a train wheel meets a rail the surface area of the contact is about the size of a dime. Any deviation in the space between the tracks can cause a derailment.
Move one of the rails out about an inch or more, something the naked eye can’t see, and the train is off the tracks. And, the ensuing derailment destroys the evidence.
And unless you can notify the railroad about something off and the train, depending on speed is at least a 1.5 to 2 miles away, the trains can’t stop if they’re going at any decent speed.

people who saw the train moving before the derailment said they saw “sparks coming from under one of the cars”. That would likely be from a failed bearing. Heat from the weakened bearing can cause metal failure and a derailment. This is so common in trains that it’s called a “hot box” and there are even heat sensors for detecting then along the track. Electronic braking would have nothing to do with this.
If the public can find this from media reports, Buttgag would certainly have been told this.
