For the most part, those studies that showed they did weren’t done on actual people, and weren’t done as random trials.
I’m sure that in certain situations masks help...but not generally, by people that don’t know how to wear them, don’t know how to put them on, and who wear them too long. Even hospital workers don’t generally wear masks in the manner in which the mandates required.

That September, then-CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said during a Senate hearing that “face masks are the most important powerful health tool we have,” even suggesting that they might offer more protection than vaccines. The last part of that paragraph may very well be accurate

I just had an idea, so I’m passing it on to any manufacturers lurking who have some testicular fortitude and want to make some money...
Health systems in NYS are STILL demanding patients wear muzzles.
So here’s what I’d like to be able to buy: disposable facemasks with the words NOT AUTHORIZED FOR USE IN HEALTHCARE SETTTINGS printed on one side.
I’m doing my darndest to stay away out of Big Med’s clutches, but in the event I can’t do that, I want to be able to wear one of those when I have to go.
