I think commercial washers still work. But I don’t know if they can legally sell them to private parties.

I have an LG washer...I can’t say I like or dislike it. All I know is that when I get ANYTHING on clothing, I have to spot it with that cheesy “detergent” and let it sit for a day or so before washing.
Then maybe it comes out.
Of course, I set it up with a program that washes all the clothes the same way for the same amount of time all in cold water too...

The local BestBuy sells commercial washer and dryer units to anyone who wants one. It may just be that Idaho isn't placing limits on retailers that other places do.

I just heard from a friend that the cost at the laundromat these days is about $10.00 per load. Holy cow!
All of my appliances are old as dirt but they all work well and have been repaired by me multiple times.

We got a Speed Queen some months back. It has some electronic stuff, but as little as we could find. Really like it so far.

They can go into the basement of a small time four-plex owner. Those guys don't buy them by the dozen. There is also a reseller market out there.

Yeah I don’t think there are any good refridgerators. We went through the same thing with washers as the author and finally bought Speed Queen. They are a little pricey but are built like tanks and wash clothes. My wife has finally stopped bitching about doing laundry. Vacuum cleaners are about the only appliances that are better than they used to be.

On the right track - the major commercial washing machine manufacturer in the US is Speed-Queen. They have a very limited line of residential machines.
Simple, and built like friggin' tanks. Expensive, but not prohibitively so. After being a amateur washer/dryer repairman for many years, purchased Speed-Queen set, and it's the best appliance buy I've ever made.
