The Biden administration has given its Ukrainian counterparts another reason for not sending them much-wanted long-range missiles: The U.S. is concerned it wouldn’t have enough for itself.
In recent meetings at the Pentagon, U.S. officials told Kyiv’s representatives that it doesn’t have any Army Tactical Missile Systems to spare, according to four people with knowledge of the talks. Transferring ATACMS to the battlefield in eastern Europe would dwindle America’s stockpiles and harm the U.S. military’s readiness for a future fight, the people said.
That worry, along with the administration’s existing concern that Ukraine would use the 190-mile range missiles to attack deep inside Russian territory and cross what the Kremlin has said is a red line, is why the U.S. isn’t shipping ATACMS to the frontlines any time soon.
The Pentagon’s assessment of its stockpiles is informed in part by how many weapons and munitions planners think they might need to confront an enemy. Those plans have not been significantly revised since the start of the war in Ukraine, and have not recalibrated what the stockpiles the U.S. might need in reserve to face a weakened Russia, or account for the fact that Ukraine is essentially fighting that war right now.

What a cop out. Can’t these people ever tell the truth.
Collect them all...
Send up a few balloons. That’ll freak ‘em out.
All bullies are paper tigers. But what would you know about fighting? Throwing pots and pans at that poor unfortunate you lived with doesn't count.
sung to the tune of Dueling Banjos...
lol!

They can call Hezbullah. They’ve got plenty.
ATACMS have been around since 1991. It’s very hard to believe we don’t have some ready for retirement soon, and deliveries in 2022 (including to foreign operators) look pretty healthy.
Countries friendly to Ukraine which have ATACMS now include Poland, Romania, Estonia, and Lithuania. Moreover, the South Koreans now make them, too, plus their own version.

Tactically, I’d argue the Ukrainians need only a few ATACMS, for, say, targets like the Kerch bridge. Given the above, it is very hard to accept that the US can’t spare, say, 6 pods. Given that Russia has had little success in taking out HIMARS launchers, and the ATACMS pods look virtually identical, plus can be further from the front, replacement needs should be light.
The much cheaper GLSDB’s will do just fine for most of Ukraine’s medium range needs. Those can even hit moving targets. Bye-bye, effective resupply by rail.
He’s a good little globohomo.
Why can’t they just give the plans to the Chinese and have them build the missiles?
The Koreans already make them.
Thats another source.
As this mess collapses and reality trumps propaganda, the hysteria is increasing. We tried to warn them.
here comes the Brits.
ATACMS are actually useful for a Pacific/East Asia war. They can be given to Taiwan to shoot back at China, they have the range to cover much of the opposite coast.
Based on some Philippine islands, they can reach most of the Chinese artificial island bases.
We need all the rockets we have for the balloon wars.
Joe was against it before he was for it!
C’mon man!!!

Expected, given our Just-in-Time system for buying hardware. Perhaps when this is over, we’ll hire some RUSSIANS who will explain to us the need to STOCKPILE munitions and RETAIN the ability to ramp up production without having to deal with Drag Queens.
...but I’m dreaming, nothing will change.
“More evidence that the Dems defense cuts have left us vulnerable.”
And JUST IN TIME to get us into a ground war in Asia. And, other than the operatives here, EVERYONE understands that the last thing we need is a war against Russia, given our Drag Queen dominated government.
