NATO Chief: Ukraine Using Ammunition Faster Than West Can Make It

BRUSSELS (AP) – NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned Monday that Ukraine is using up ammunition far faster than its allies can provide it and putting pressure on Western defense industries, just as Russia ramps up its military offensive.

“The war in Ukraine is consuming an enormous amount of munitions and depleting allied stockpiles,” Stoltenberg said. “The current rate of Ukraine´s ammunition expenditure is many times higher than our current rate of production. This puts our defense industries under strain.”

According to some estimates, Ukraine is firing up to 6,000-7,000 artillery shells each day, around a third of the daily amount that Russia is using almost one year into the war.

In other words, they are running out of ammunition, exactly what they told us was happening to Russia.

This is a high intensity war, albeit a sloppily conductedone.

The article doesn’t address that.

Ukraine is only using a third of what Russia is using, and our industries can’t keep up.

Obviously the West needs to increase its production capacity regardless of the Ukraine war.

"In other words, they are running out of ammunition, exactly what they told us was happening to Russia."

Projection at its finest.

America's military procurement is so corrupt and hampered by regulations that I fear it cannot be fixed until foreign troops actually invade U.S. territory.

The figures I've seen have Russia firing 60K/day. So the ratio is more like 1 to 8 or 1 to 10.

It is ALWAYS projection with them...count on it.

The problem with the West is that they’re, just now, figuring out that Just-in-Time production methods are great for peace-time, where you need a continuous flow for training, but not so hot when you decide to start a ground war in Asia.

Russia, of course, has ADULTS, rather than MBA-Schooled Drag Queens, making military-related decisions, so they knew that Just-in-Time is about the DUMBEST idea for military readiness and they stayed well clear of that crap.

My old Military Instincts tell me that Russia is preparing a huge offense that will be divisive and most of the Armor we have promised will not get there in time to make a difference. We need to start planning ours’ and Natos’ response to a Russian victory in Ukraine.

While we need to increase our production, you neocommunists are pretty funny.

You talk about the “ADULTS” in Russia, when they couldn’t handle the logistics to knock off Ukraine last year and according to you they are still struggling while firing 10 artillery shells to every Uke shell.

And according to you they are facing a bunch of woke drag queens.

So much for the planning of those “adults”.

Meant to say “Desisive” and not “Divisive”.

Production ramp up needs to start quickly before a shooting war starts with China.

Someone with old army instincts told me the Russians lack a modern road system to move men and supplies, and their new recruits will be a logistical burden.

The new Ukraine armored forces are supposed to be there by May.

I wasn’t completely convinced, but we’re about to see.

There is no JIT production of defense items....it is all based on contracts awarded by the government based on political influence.

JIT works fine in the private sector if done properly.

I agree. Hopefully this is being addressed. A China conflict will be more at sea and air, but I still suspect we don’t produce enough for a protracted conflict.
