DeSantis Preps 2024 Bid Behind Scenes While Waiting to Declare

Governor Ron DeSantis is actively preparing a run for president in 2024, even as he delays a formal announcement to keep Republican voters’ attention on his aggressively conservative record in Florida, according to people familiar with the plans.

Behind the scenes, DeSantis and his tight-knit team of advisers are interviewing national consultants to work on a presidential campaign. A retreat for roughly 150 donors, GOP leaders and lawmakers is planned for the final weekend in February at a hotel in Palm Beach, where DeSantis will tout his record as governor.

Aides are speaking to and vetting operatives in early states such as Iowa, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, who could oversee on-the-ground operations and ensure the campaign meets every requirement to qualify for the primaries, and his allies are starting to stand up a super-PAC to support his nascent candidacy, according to two people briefed on the plans.

Everyone’s Democratic,” he told Sean Hannity in 2011, when he was weighing a White House challenge to President Barack Obama. “So what am I going to do, contribute to Republicans? … I mean, one thing I’m not stupid.”

"I like DS DeSantis... in Florida"

Anytime someone says this, it's tantamount to "I don't want him to run before I fear he'll win."

He donated and praised Hillary all the way until he ran against her. Never did lock her up.

The entire reason Trump succeeded in the first place was he was heavily pumped up by the MSM in the runup to 2016 to spoil the race for the more ‘mainstream’ republicans, but then they lost control. People have such short memories.

It’s not about DeSantis individually.

I used to love Jeff Sessions... when in Alabama.

Name me one individual who the Establishment despises more than Trump? Is DeSantis that individual?

Look back on Florida’s DeSantis with a cynical/critical/curious eye. His successes went unimpeded. His recent election victory was off the charts.

An adversary never wants his opponent to believe there’s no escape. And what has Florida uniquely represented to the Conservative mindset?

Trump is attacking the Establishment to which DeSantis happens to be attached. Not Trump’s problem, and it shouldn’t be a problem for FR either — but you’re well aware of the indignation, and it’s not that flattering.

I guess that’s why the attacks have begun.

“So those who like DeSantis are deep staters?”

the deep state is simply looking for a trump stalking horse ... anybody will do ...

not hyping but surely reporting.

Trump himself made it happen. The rallies were insane — and attended by people of all stripes.

Most probably don't remember that Trump was a candidate for POTUS in 2000 with the Reform Party that Ross Perot started.

“Trump is attacking the Establishment to which DeSantis happens to be attached”

LOL!

Trump is attacking DeSantis because he sees DeSantis as an obstacle to his reelection.

Trump attacked conservative Mo Brooks and aligned himself Britt, the McConnell establishment candidate.

On the advice of Jesse Ventura!

And ran on a platform of universal Healthcare.

Exactly same for me.
DeSantis is young. His best shot is in 2028.

The Establishment hopes to use DeSantis to beat Trump. As do you apparently.

Like I said up top, you’re in good company.

DeSantis was MAGA before Trump. DeSantis fought the establishment starting with his first year in congress.

Trump attacked conservative Mo Brooks and endorsed McConnell establishment candidate Britt over Brooks.

I attended Trump rally in Everett, WA many months before Nov 2016. It was in Xfinity arena with 10,000 capacity. It was jam packed and 8000 more could not get in and watched on TV screen setup outside the arena building.

Mind you this was in blue state of WA. The energy of the crowd was off the charts. I came away convinced Trump would win and he did.

If that was true he would have been President in 88. I know its tempting to live in a fantasy world where the majority of americans naturally vote for the most competent person but thats not the case. He hit a confluence of factors in 2016 from a powerful anti-establishment mood, to a weak primary field, to a very bad opponent, to being underestimated and even then it was hardly a landslide. If he had been up against the other Clinton or Obama in their prime and they had taken him seriously he would have been flattened. Even Bannon thinks so.
