DeSantis Preps 2024 Bid Behind Scenes While Waiting to Declare

Governor Ron DeSantis is actively preparing a run for president in 2024, even as he delays a formal announcement to keep Republican voters’ attention on his aggressively conservative record in Florida, according to people familiar with the plans.

Behind the scenes, DeSantis and his tight-knit team of advisers are interviewing national consultants to work on a presidential campaign. A retreat for roughly 150 donors, GOP leaders and lawmakers is planned for the final weekend in February at a hotel in Palm Beach, where DeSantis will tout his record as governor.

Aides are speaking to and vetting operatives in early states such as Iowa, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, who could oversee on-the-ground operations and ensure the campaign meets every requirement to qualify for the primaries, and his allies are starting to stand up a super-PAC to support his nascent candidacy, according to two people briefed on the plans.

Fear of what? Either Trump is a winner or he isn’t. Making sure he has no credible opponents means you think he can’t win a fair fight, sort of like what the Dems did with Brandon.

You do not value AMERICA FIRST agenda? okay, now I know where your agenda is.

Since you need to tell LIES about me, it seems you think the LIES against Trump were just fine.

I NEVER said that I do not value the America First agenda. The post was to an arrogant POS trying to say they believe in it more than another FReeper.

That is virtue signaling, not ideology.

The problem with Carson is he would have been eaten alive by the deep state. Good intentions are not enough.

“Trump is a 5-time loser..”

You keep peddling that blatant lie. Trump has only run for public office twice in his lifetime - once in 2016 and once in 2020. Even if you buy the idea that Biden actually beat him in 2020, his record is 1-1. But reading further you “explain” yourself.

” Apart from his win in 2016, he lost in 2018, 2020, 2020 special elections, 2022 and 2022 special election.”

So “he lost” all those other elections in which he didn’t even run? Fine. If you’re going to play loose and fast with the meaning of words, why don’t you also count elections where candidates he endorsed won? No need to answer. It’s a rhetorical question. It’s obvious why you don’t count them.

Trump was leader of the GOP since 2016.

He won 2016, then lost 5 times after that.

It was his party, his GOP chair, his selected candidates, etc.

He is a 5-time loser.

2022 should have been a red tsunami with 60 seats turning in the House and at least 4 in the Senate. Biden had the lowest approval rating of any POTUS in a mid-term, 50 year high inflation, record gas prices, etc, etc etc.

If Trump could not engineer a win for the party under those circumstances, then he is not fit to lead the party.

Prove me wrong.

Even by your standard of counting other candidates’ losses as Trump losses, you’re still being dishonest. You list 2018 as a Trump loss. In 2018 the House switched from Republican to Democrat while the Senate remained Republican, actually gaining two seats. That’s sounds like a tie. But I guess you can define it to mean whatever you want it to mean. That’s the way you roll.

Stop playing with word salads. MAGA is not measured on a scale. You are either for or against.

I’m sure that’s that “big mouth = tough” belief system.

Trump is believed to be brave and tough because he mouths off.

Ben Carson believed to be weak because he doesn’t talk as if a bull in a china shop.

You have no idea what a silent man is like.

I have personal connection to Ben Carson and the impression from those who worked with him and my relatives was he was the commanding presence. He was in control. I saw him as possibly like Washington, who was infinitely better than Trump could ever hope to be. Even loud Teddy Roosevelt stated “Speak SOFTLY, and carry a big stick”! IOW, stop inserting foot in mouth.

You’ve changed a discussion about capability into one about who’s brave and tough. Who’s braver and tougher between Carson and Trump is irrelevant to me. Who’s more capable as a chief executive is what matters to me. And on that front, Trump wins, not because he mouths off, but because he’s proven it through years of success in business as well as his success as President. Being successful in the cutthroat worlds of business and politics is a far cry from being a good neurosurgeon or being a good hospital administrator. If you think Carson has the talents to succeed in the swamp known as Washington, I think you’re mistaken.

I can agree that generally Trump may have the capability (though his actually performance may put that in question).

However I don’t vote just on perceived capability, but numerous other factors. Not least of which are moral fiber and character.

LOL!

Is this the conspiracy now? That there couldn't possibly be this much support for the conservative, winning Ron DeSantis over the gay party-throwing, gun banning loser Donald Trump, so clearly, we're all sharing accounts?

In case you need to be reminded, Free Republic is a conservative forum. Don't be surprised when people here support actual conservatives over moderates and social liberals.
