Howie Carr: Sununu’s kamikaze run for president

Gov. Chris Sununu is an MSNBC-CNN Republican.

You could call him a RINO, but that’s become an overused pejorative, like, say, “racist.”

The fact is, every Monday, when you read that Sununu said something on one of the network chat shows the previous day, it turns out he was never on Fox, at least not since Chris Wallace went into the Witness Protection Program known as CNN.

Sununu practically lives now on state-run media. Last weekend he materialized on ABC “News.”

There’s only one reason Republicans get invited on these dreadful Democrat shows – to put the knock on other Republicans, especially Donald J. Trump.

[cut]

You might wonder, why would Sununu undertake a kamikaze run for president that he can’t possibly win? Would he really give up the governorship?

The good news for Sununu is, the primary filing deadline in New Hampshire isn’t until June. They have the last primary in the country, a week after Massachusetts.

So after he inevitably gets stomped by Trump and DeSantis in February 2024, he has four months to lick his wounds before getting back into the real fight.

One theory of Sununu’s “candidacy” is that he’s a stalking horse, a straw, for Ron DeSantis. The DeSantis game plan, if there is one, is to get a big field of candidates into the early states where Trump has done well in past primaries, like New Hampshire.

If you split the GOP vote early on, Trump might look vulnerable, and maybe in the later primaries DeSantis can catch him.

Sununu’s reward if that happens? Perhaps a slot in DeSantis’ Cabinet, i.e., “going back to D.C.”

[cut]

The other thing is, he’s of course looking at the other legends in their own mind who are getting into the fight. Nikki Haley?

The Republicans are all about making sure Trump doesn’t win in 2024. Same goal as the Democrats. Imagine that.

Often times these 3rd tier candidates do this for resume bragging rights...Former Presidential Candidate” stuff. The risk is that they do very poorly and forever tarnish their image and make a fool of themselves.

There’s big money to be had by running for office, and while you can’t pocket your campaign funds after an election directly, you can shift them around for your own political slush fund after you flame out. Also, there are always a few idiot children of rich donors who will cut you a check for your campaign if you let their kid show up as a communications director for a month or two as a resume enhancer or to work off community service hours.

So lo g as the people writing laws benefit, it will never be illegal.

This guy has a pretty good take on things, I agree with him that the Republican strategy is to run a whole bunch of candidates in hopes of diluting Trump support so as to give DeSantis an opportunity to slip in. Anyone running against Trump in the primaries is suspect in my book.

The Sununus gave us David Souter, postponing a semi-sane SCOTUS majority for a generation. That fact alone should discredit the Sununus forever.

Good point.

Politicians like to feel important. That is why they run for office. A vainglorious run for POTUS will get them lots of that attention they crave.

Nikki Hale won’t even get 2% of the vote. She is part of the stalking horses for the NeverTrump establishment. The establishment is going to throw dozens of candidates out there to run against Trump, the goal is to suck as many votes away from Trump as possible so their guy Desantis can squeeze by and steal the nomination. In the end it won’t work. Desantis may not even run.

Your point is true but somehow Hyena Harris managed to both make a fool of herself and position herself one crapped in diaper away from the Presidency.

She was Black and female, and that was the only quality Biden needed.

Nope. Haley is just being used as an Establishment pawn. She is running against Trump to try to goad him into attacking her in the primary to try to strip women’s votes from him. She’s an establishment tool who has never ranked above 4% in any poll. All of her donors come from the NWO globalists.
