Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita stepped down from her position on Friday citing a lack of support in the former Soviet Republic.
The pro-Western government had been in power for just 18 months, during a period dominated by the Russian invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
Moldova's President Maia Sandu accepted Gavrilita's resignation and said she would talk with parliamentary groups about a possible replacement.
"Thank you so much for your enormous sacrifice and efforts to lead the country in a time of so many crises," Sandu wrote on Facebook.
According to Moldovan and Romanian media, Sandu nominated Dorin Recean, her pro-Western former defense minister, for the role of prime minister.

The West doesn’t need another economic basket case to subsidize, but I suppose Moldavians would make for useful cannon fodder once we run out of Ukrainians to throw in the fire.

Well good, hopefully they have enough of them to keep Moldovia out of the coming fray.
They were blocking NATO tanks a few years ago.
Moldova being stirred up was on the Rand report list of things to do that would destabilize Russia.
Then last summer hundreds and occasionally thousands were camping out weekends at the capital to protest this woman who just resigned. They were very anti western.
Yesterday, I think it was, a few Russian missiles crossed their airspace.
That was probably her last bad hair day. 😃
They have about 350,000 ethnic Russians who are anti-western.
The PM was demanding membership in NATO despite their constitution prohibiting military alliances, with her latest demands just a week ago.
No mention of that, of course.

Interesting, I know very little about Moldovia. A few years ago it was on my list of low cost of living retirement spots to check out, up until this stuff with Ukraine got started.

Maybe they just weren’t that popular, and following EU’s lead has just made their economy that much worse.
Waiting for all those life-long Moldavan analysts and DC experts to chime-in.
I would put numerous countries well above that.

By anti-western you mean pro-communist? They still fly the hammer a sickle and vote for the communist party. Are those the people you support?
Ecuador was on that list as well until an expat from there recently warned of the political changes currently taking place there. He used to be a big fan talking up the potential of living there, but now seems quite dejected over where it’s heading. So now I’m looking at Southeast Asia. I think Europe is screwed and tossed all European countries off my list. Political instability in South and Central America is also a concern.
I think there’s some ex Pats here in Thailand and Vietnam.
Yup I’m considering those countries and possibly the Philippines, though lack of infrastructure in the Philippines may complicate my going there. I need a place with at least decent medical care, and outside of St Luke’s in Manilla it gets kind of iffy. And I have no desire to live in or near Manilla.
