SpaceX says satellite communications service ‘never, never meant to be weaponised’
A senior Ukrainian presidential aide has reacted with anger after Elon Musk’s SpaceX said it had taken steps to prevent its Starlink satellite communications service from controlling drones, which are critical to Kyiv’s forces in fighting off the Russian invasion.
Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX’s chief operating officer, said at a conference in the US that the surprise decision had been taken because it had never been the company’s intention to allow Starlink to be used “for offensive purposes”.
That prompted an immediate complaint on Thursday morning from Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to Ukraine’s president, Volodymr Zelenskiy, who argued that Musk’s business had failed to recognise Ukraine’s right to self-defence.

>Shortly after the start of the war, Musk, SpaceX’s founder, agreed to provide Starlink for nothing to Ukraine, in response to a plea made on Twitter by Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s minister of digital transformation. “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine,” Musk said in reply.
Ukrainian forces use Starlink to help control their large network of surveillance drones, critical to monitor Russian troop concentrations and military movements, at a time when Moscow’s forces are on the attack across large parts of the eastern front.

“F**k off is my very diplomatic reply to you,” replied Andrij Melnyk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, prompting Musk to threaten to stop providing Starlink to Ukraine. Musk had said that providing Starlink was costly to SpaceX, although the US government pays at least some of the costs.

Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos, threatened Musk for “supplying the fascist forces in Ukraine with military communications."
Welfare satellites, what will Zelenski beg for next?
Too bad Musk can’t let the Russians use it for free — until Zelensky stops the victory dances and agrees to compromise.
Maybe Elon got queasy when they started using drones to deliver chemical weapons, and bragged about it
The Russians were using it for free…figured out how to track down Uke drone sites
They took him off the kill list when he caved in and agreed to keep paying for it
Musk should have said: “we must control disinformation and hate speech on the Starlink Platform.”
The American Left and its DC masters wouldn’t have had a reply.
Musk was warned by Russia Starlink satellites would become legitimate military targets if they allowed Ukrainian military use.
After checking the force majeure clause in Starklink insurance policies he opted to block drone device signals from Ukraine. Prudent decision.
Is Victoria Nuland making plans to destroy Starlink yet?
I often wonder which bridge Vicky the Troll lives under...
He gave them star link for free in the beginning. And then they treated him like absolute garbage. The idiot Banderists deserve whatever happens to them. They aren’t even smart enough to be polite to the benefactor.
Just funny that some of the same liberal bozos who are against using drones to target Jihadis are OK with it when it comes to those wily Russians.
Ukraine put Musk on that public hit list they have.
Yeah!
My family and I had the very same thoughts about FDR and his cabinet during WWII...
Nothing worse than fighting a war while being led by a corrupt politician...
there is speculation this is being done because of drones using starlink to deliver chemical weapons.
this is likely the issue.
aren’t you supposed to compare him to churchill? that was the suggestion I saw in the circular. FDR may have negative image with some republican voters, but churchill tends to have a much better image today.
check your notes again, FDR would work on DU.
Do not need to check my "notes"...
I just check my memories of living under FDR...
“More proof that the government of Ukraine is straight up evil.”
Corruption is in Ukraine’s DNA. Just like FedGov.
that being the case, I apologize.
we are invaded with nudge posters, and FDR semmed like a comparison used in error on the wrong forum.
