Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Thursday defended President Biden’s reaction to the flight of a Chinese surveillance balloon across the United States and said he agreed with the president’s decision to shoot it down off the coast of South Carolina.
Romney said he was satisfied with answers he received from senior administration officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, at an all-senators classified briefing on the incident.
“My questions were satisfactorily answered and I believe the administration, the president, our military and our intelligence agencies acted skillfully and with care. At the same time, their capabilities are extraordinarily impressive,” Romney told reporters after the briefing.
Romney said the administration could have done some things differently but noted it’s always easy to second-guess decisions in hindsight.
“Was everything done 100 percent correctly? I can’t imagine that would be the case of almost anything we do,” he said.

In other words, we really can't tell you what happened here and our real time capabilities to change the data that is actually sent to China to really mess with them.

This is no surprise. Romney is the icon for a two-faced, vengeful, political loser.
The counter intelligence value the US got from observing then shooting down the balloon, was most likely greater than the intelligence value the Chinese got from using them. When the US AF tracked the balloons, all US military assets below would change what they did to give away as little as possible. This means that the balloons would find little China did not already know, while revealing their intelligence gather methods, targets, and technology. It is frustrating to watch and exercise patience, the net gain still goes to the US.
Romney made Santos likable.

Wow. Just wow. So they saw U.S. military installations close-up, got to spy on whatever they wanted, and we see what sort of camera and balloons they like to use?
