Yes, the USSR was the true threat to the US and Germany may have been able to actually topple the USSR and then be absorbed with dealing with the fallout for a long time. If not, then an armed combat standoff between those two states would relieved the US of any concern with either of those states. In any case the US would have been relieved of the stupendous financial burden of Second World War and the Cold War. A fraction of the costs of those two conflicts would have been more than sufficient to fund a military establishment to protect the US, not to engage in perpetual global conflict.
