A Russian ultranationalist who once held the skull of what he purported was a dead Ukrainian soldier has died in hospital after being shot in the head.
Igor Mangushev, 36, who also claimed to have invented the Z symbol used as a symbol of support for Russian forces, was shot in a close-range attack, doctors told his wife.
He died in hospital four days later at 6am on Wednesday.
His wife hit out at Russian authorities for failing to investigate the killing seen as a warning to one of Putin’s closest allies, head of Wagner private army Yevgeny Prigozhin.
In August Mangueshev achieved infamy after horrifying footage showed him taking to the stage of a metal concert holding the reported skull of a downed Azov fighter.
He told the cheering crowd: “We’re alive and this guy is already dead.

Deadly Ruski humor.
P.S. How did the bullet get into his head?
Hamletski, Act V.
Igor Mangushev won the grand prize in the stupid category.
Can you people stop posting this crap and using FR as your personal toilet?
“And we all shine on....”
He was an evil ghoul, he was waving skulls around. Saying he was going to make one into a drinking cup. He got his karmic comeuppance.
The Devil will welcome him home.
“Alas, poor Yorick, I knew you well”— Hamlet in the play Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 1.
As with today’s Russia versus Ukraine, we all knew this tie in already from Shakespeare but here it is:
He finds it a sobering thought that all those jokes, that singing, the flashes of merriment that set the king’s guests on fire at the dinner table – all that has come to this, a grinning skull, covered with muck.
This is a central scene in the play because it draws so many of Shakespeare’s themes together – death, decay, corruption which, in this case, is physical, graphic and dramatic, pointing to the social and political corruption that streams through almost every line of the play.
It is also a commentary on the futility of life itself, as it always ends in this way. He reflects on the falseness of women, as he sees them, in that however much they may plaster their faces with makeup they will all end up like this skull, and they could learn a lesson from Yorick. This is once again a graphic image reflecting a moral state, echoing his exclamation regarding his mother’s betrayal of his father: ‘frailty, thy name is woman.’
From NoSweatShakespeare.com site.
“In his Telegram channel, Mangushev openly calls for the killing of civilians.
‘We will burn your houses, kill your families, take away your children and raise them Russians,’ he posted.”
Apparently, he was in a congressman’s office, fell and hit his head on the desk which happened to have a bullet on it.
The congressman quit congress shortly after.
While original autopsy reports indicated blunt force trama consistent with being head stomped, a short time later the fall and subsequent fatal trama was attributed to a heart condition by an ME convicted of falsifying reports for others.
Maybe his dog accidentally pulled the trigger. 🤗
I thought it was a candidate for feel good story of the day. What didn’t you like?
