I keep hoping that someday that will not be necessary on FR....

Part of me feels that way too - however - years from now historians will be reading our posts. I hope. And they may not be able to distinguish between sarcastic and non-sarcastic comments.

Have long since deliberately forsworn the tactical use of sarcasm.

So many reasonable people don’t really appreciate it, or, at least, they don’t enjoy it terribly well.

Besides—once you graduate from sarcasm into satire, why regress? You get at least the same amount of impact, particularly from intelligent people, without the collateral damage and potential for confusion or hard feelings.
