It was cheap.
It was simple.
It was unlikely to draw a harsh response.
Endless acres of wild speculation over this.
Lacking information, this is a pundit’s wildest dream.
EVERYTHING is intelligence gathering.
With just a couple of those and an EMP they could cripple the country.
We don’t see them launch, they just float away.
They are testing how reliably they can get it over the USA using just air currents.
If they attack Taiwan (very likely with Bidumb in office) they can use this against US to prevent a response.

How does anyone know it was a spy balloon? Has the entire balloon and it’s instrumentation been analyzed?
I wonder if the Visigoths sent a balloon over Rome first?

Here is my motive. Russia is wrapping up the war as a win.
NATO generals met and are developing an army, preparing to go fight Russia in Ukraine.
Russia has said they will nuke the US if that happens.
China and Russia are bff.
They want to stop our nuclear capability to respond.
The balloon flew over two of our federal nuclear sites.
That’s all I have for now.

Third, Beijing could see Biden’s weakness and willingness to defer power to subordinates in the response to his order to shoot the spy satellite down three days later, February 1st, when it entered Montana airspace.
I don’t believe he gave this order on the 1st. I think he waited for the internal polling and focus group results before he acted.

Maybe, just maybe, China has sent a message.
Official US policy concerning China/Taiwan is “one-state” yet the US has troops and weapons in Taiwan and sends money to political groups that support separation.
The message could be that since the US is so fond of stirring up trouble in far away places “over there” that it might like a taste of trouble “over here”.

You implied it. The most powerful military is only as good as those in charge and who use it properly.
