SECOND mega earthquake hits Turkey, hours after record 7.8-magnitude tremor kills more than 1,700 people: 7.5 quake strikes as Turkey and Syria reel from overnight destruction that saw families crushed in their sleep

Turkey has been hit by a second massive earthquake, hours after an earlier catastrophic quake devastated the region and killed more than 1,700 people.

The 7.8-magnitude night-time tremor, followed hours later by a slightly smaller one, wiped out entire sections of major Turkish cities in a region filled with millions of people who have fled the civil war in Syria and other conflicts.

The later 7.5 magnitude quake struck at 1.24pm (1024 GMT) two-and-a-half miles southeast of the town of Ekinozu and around 60 miles north of the first quake that has wrought devastation across Turkey and Syria.

Hundreds are still trapped under rubble on both sides of the border as a result of the first, and the toll is expected to rise as rescue workers continue to search through mounds of wreckage for families crushed in their sleep.

Orhan Tatar, an official from the Turkish disaster agency, told reporters that the two quakes were independent of each other. He said hundreds of aftershocks were expected after both. Tremors were felt as far away as Greenland.

A neocon would think that way. With glee no doubt.

God should be more upset with the Armenian Genocide conducted by the Turks. That crime is much more damnable than making nato globalists angry.

There is nothing “Godly” about nato.

Yes, God judges man, often using natural disasters, wars, pestilences, etc.

In that case after last night's Grammys, we're in big trouble.

There seems to be a misconception out there that I somehow know the mind of God. I do not claim that degree of prescience, nor did I ever imply that I could. I was speaking as an observer only, and trying to attach a plausible explanation in my own mind.

Correlation does not imply causation. Because Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did in fact show his disagreement with the possibility of including Finland and Sweden in an expansion of NATO, that may or may not have had an influence on the judgment of God, but the judgment of God was by no means limited ONLY to that act of international relations. There are any number of other reasons, but to this observer, this is but one of many that come to mind.

How hard a fetch upside the head do some folks have to have to realize their personal error may in fact be an error?

Righteous anger has its place. But there is also an obligation upon those who exercise it to be sure of their ground before they lash out.

Speaking for God, are you? Deciding why things happen?

Careful with that.

I’m with Cat Herd and fidelis on this one.

Prayers up for the affected region and for the vast number of people mourning, those injured and those who have lost everything. Prayers for the Lord’s mercy for all who are shattered by this devastating event. 🙏

Sailors will save drowning enemy sailors in wartime. At least civilized nations will do so. Syria appealed to Israel. Will Biden lift sanctions on Syria ? Doubt it.

You ask.....How does something that God created become void?

The fall of Satan....because THEN Go created Light. Easy to see when you read the entire account. Something happened in that space of time.

There seems to be a misconception out there that I somehow know the mind of God. I do not claim that degree of prescience, nor did I ever imply that I could. I was speaking as an observer only, and trying to attach a plausible explanation in my own mind.

This is what you wrote: "God is smiting Turkey for its intransigence in allowing Sweden and Fenland join NATO."

This is not a statement of a mere observer, seeking to attach a plausible explanation for why the earthquake occurred. This is a definitive assertion, an outright identification of activity on the part of God. You don't get to claim 'correlation does not imply causation' when you yourself asserted it as a statement of fact, complete with a pithy "Karma is a b!$@h" at the end of your original post.

You state: "Because Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did in fact show his disagreement with the possibility of including Finland and Sweden in an expansion of NATO, that may or may not have had an influence on the judgment of God, but the judgment of God was by no means limited ONLY to that act of international relations. There are any number of other reasons, but to this observer, this is but one of many that come to mind."

My particular question is why NATO would even come up at all when it comes to the matter of moral judgment of a nation in the eyes of God? If Turkey were to be smited by God's wrath, their activity with regards to NATO wouldn't even enter the Top 10 as to why.

From an outside perspective, attributing an earthquake to heavenly judgment because of a nation's activity relating a secular military/political alliance?

That's just downright weird.

Sailors will save drowning enemy sailors in wartime.

One of the all time movie scenes that will always stay with me was from "Das Boot", when the Germans were looking on in horror realizing there was nothing they could do the save the British sailors, they had torpedoed, they expected them to have abandoned the ship earlier.

I saw this from a Q&A about Das Boot:

War Order 154, issued by the German Navy in late 1939, explicitly prohibited U-boats from rescuing survivors. It was reaffirmed in 1942 after the Laconia incident, where three German U-boats rescued hundreds of survivors of the torpedoed transport ship Laconia, and were subsequently attacked and sunk by US bombers. Adm. Dönitz ordered in the Laconia order, that from that point on, no survivors were to be rescued, nor should they be given assistance. Prior to that, even though all sides had prohibitions in place, U-boats of all sides would assist survivors if possible (providing food, navigational aid and medical help, sometimes taking survivors aboard). Even if not for the order, there simply wasn't enough room for prisoners on his boat. The whole movie has been shot in such a way as to convey how tight the quarters were on board a WWII German sub, there was barely enough room for the crew, their supplies, food, fuel, torpedoes, etc. Taking on prisoners would mean having to feed and quarter them on the boat. Also, it might have been days or weeks before they could dock in a safe port to drop them off. Not to mention the possibility of a prisoner escaping, causing sabotage or at least giving away the sub's position. So the Captain sails off, leaving them to their fate.

U.S. Standards? Well sure. Looks like the Turks hired the guys who built the Florida condos that are either down or going down? And forgot to bring re-bar? And use the Chinese formula for concrete mix?

How hard a fetch upside the head do some folks have to have to realize their personal error may in fact be an error?

How ironic is this statement? Boards, splinters, eyes.

You've been whupped up side of the head so many times by so many people on this thread I was beginning to feel sorry for you.

Instead of contradicting yourself over and over and trying to weasel out of what you categorically stated in your #17, why don't you just man up and admit you made the very human error of typing out a knee-jerk reaction because you had Ukraine on the brain?

And while you don't have to admit it to us, maybe you should examine yourself as to whether you have elevated NATO to religious significance and whether that is right and proper. You appear to subscribe to some sort of mishmash New Age sort of "religion" with more than a whiff of Gnosticism to it. Those who have no proper religion tend to worship things unworthy of worship (like NATO, for instance).

And while you're at it, why are you so concerned with NATO and Ukraine you imagine God would smite people in Turkey over it? What is it to you, really? Have you ever even been to Ukraine or Russia? What do you really know about this conflict? And about NATO, for that matter? Again, no need to answer that here, just questions to ask yourself.

Since when is it ‘neocon’ to not want to give support to countries that openly side with my nation’s stated enemies?

Russia and it’s willing toadies here on FR issue daily nuclear threats against the USA and so far as I’m concerned Turkey can go pound sand if they want any money for rebuilding from us. Let them go ask Russia for money since they like Russia so much.

Wait a sec, I thought you said you were tired of Russia-Ukraine subjects yet here you are hating on NATO and Ukraine.

I guess you just don’t like jokes that make fun of Fuhrer Putin.

So here ya go:

Putin’s car was racing along a back road, as he was late for a tryst.
The car came around a corner and hit a hog in the middle of the road,
killing it. He told the chauffeur to stop, saying,

‘That hog was probably the farmers food for this winter. Go up to the
farmhouse on the hill and tell him that you killed it.’

So the chauffeur heaves himself out of the sedan and trudges up the
hill to the farm house, goes in and doesn’t come back for an hour. He
gets back in the driver’s seat totally drunk and reeking of vodka.

Putin asks where the heck he has been and what took so long. The driver
says he went in and the farmer set him down and got him drunk and
offered food aplenty. Then, the farmer’s daughter came out and enticed the driver into her room where he received pleasures untold.

Putin asked, ‘Exactly, what did you say to the farmer?’

The driver said, ‘I told him, ‘I am Putin’s chauffeur and I just killed the pig.”
