It isn’t only the US of course...This balloon has been around over the last few years, Japan, India, Philippines, Canada, now Latin America.
That’s a good response, just about anything that balloon could detect is already done quite well by Google maps. Additionally, the ChiComs have got to have satellites capable of super imaging just about anything, similar to what we have. So I don’t think getting images of anything was the goal of that balloon.
And was allowing the balloon to drift all the way over the US an act of incompetence, or done on purpose to gather intel? Whatever the balloon was gathering could have been blocked by our own intel people, to include intercepting any messages it sent to the chinks.
Not shooting it down until over water was likely done so retrieving it would be better, meaning it would most likely be in tact so the electronics could be studied.
We are fed so full of bullshit by our own government just about anything could be true. Propaganda about the balloon, propaganda about covid, propaganda about Ukraine. The only real certainty is anything coming from the MSM or this regime is a lie.

Perhaps an Aviation expert can help - wasn’t this balloon required to have transponder with a filed flight plan? Which would have meant they needed approval from somewhere in the Brandon administration for the overflight.
NOW it can be revealed, it was a bylloon. The bylloon’s pronouns are (*&”/#@/&*) a State secret. Because the bylloon was not destroyed over US airspace can be interpreted to mean that bylloonphobia, and antibylloonism are not growing as fast as suspected, and there is still time to institute Federal re-education (preschool to post graduate level) bylloonism sensitivity training and brainwashing. By the time the Feds are done, any cis/hetero balloons will be a distant memory.
