Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida and a likely 2024 candidate for president, delivered on an earlier promise Wednesday when he said new gas stoves — in fact, all gas appliances — should be exempt from his state’s sales tax.
DeSantis rolled out the first budget of his second term, and among the proposed breaks for taxpayers is a $7 million permanent exemption on appliances fueled by combustible gas, such as natural gas propane, butane, liquefied petroleum gas and syngas.
The move comes as the debate over gas stoves has heated up in recent weeks. In an interview with Bloomberg in early January, an official from the Consumer Product Safety Commission talked about the possibility of a ban on the sale of gas stoves, which some studies have found produce emissions that contribute to climate change and also pose health risks inside the home.
The official, Richard Trumka Jr., later tweeted: “To be clear, CPSC isn’t coming for anyone’s gas stoves. Regulations apply to new products. For Americans who CHOOSE to switch from gas to electric, there is support available — Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes a $840 rebate.”
The CPSC later walked back its comments, but the agency also said it would conduct more research this year.

way to go Gov Ron.
no words. just giving it to them right in the teeth.
Still though, I’ll keep my powder dry on this until next year.
May the best man win. We all know a lot can happen between now and next year.
Exactly. Gas stoves are actually a form of home defense, starting with keeping you warm if necessary. Turn all those burners on at once and its essentially a fireplace.
DeSantis is really cooking with gas.
“””May the best man win. We all know a lot can happen between now and next year.”””
I personally like the idea that the GOP has a very strong bench of potential candidates for 2024.
While the Democrat bench is pretty weak and as we have found out in 2020 and 2022, the DEM’s can only win by massive cheating.
Instead of worrying about who the best GOP candidate will be in 2024, we should focus all of our energy on cleaning up the election systems in each state.
Unless we clean up the election mess, even our best will lose.
Gas stoves are a requirement in Hurricane Country.
Atta boy.
Until the Democrat Election Theft Machine is destroyed, you are just pissing into the wind.
That, too.
I had the plumbers come and put in a new gas line, last Friday. Yesterday my new gas stove was delivered. I planned on getting a gas stove for a couple of years, this just made me pull the trigger. I’m giving my daughter my old electric stove, it still works great.
Not a problem here in WA since my gas stove just identified as electric.
I understand his intentions and they are good. But this is just another example of government picking winners and losers. Even though I would fall into the winner’s category if I lived in Florida and needed to buy a stove, I am dead set against this.
