Notre-Dame to Regain Spire This Year and Reopen End-2024

Notre-Dame Cathedral's spire will be back in place by the end of the year, but a full reopening following the devastating fire of 2019 will not happen before next year's Paris Olympic Games.

The reconstruction is still on track for completion by the end of 2024, the culture ministry told AFP.

It means the 12th-century cathedral, which previously saw about 12 million annual visitors, will not be able to welcome attendees of the Olympic Games which Paris is hosting in July 2024 and August 2024.

I wonder what religion it will be? By law, the Catholic Church cannot own any churches or building in France, and any building s they use have to be marked as property of the state.

To the credit of the French government, they’ve apparently demanded that the restoration be done in-kind fully replicating the pre-fire interior/exterior... no “Spirit of Vatican II wreckovation.”

That’s great! I really feared they would build an ugly modern “new and improved” version of this beloved cathedral. 🙄

There are so many beautiful, historic buildings throughout Europe, but there are way too many “modern” ugly eyesores as well… which is a damn shame.

I’m glad the cathedral is being restored to what it looked like, but I did like the swimming pool

Yep, there was a lot of worry early on that they were going to do some horrible “contemporary” rebuilding.
