A massive spy balloon believed to be from China was seen above Montana on Thursday and is being tracked as it flies across the continental United States, with President Joe Biden ultimately deciding against "military options" because of the risk to civilians, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

As I understand it, President Biden doesn't want to bring the balloon down in a remote area because it risks causing casualties on the ground.
Gravity being what it is, the free-roaming balloon will always pose something of a risk and should be taken down in a planned way while still over a remote area.
Why wait until it is over a densely populated area where this unguided balloon could fail and fall into a major city?
I'm starting to have questions about the President's thought process.

Balloons have long been used to conduct air sampling for radioactive isotopes. They can also collect samples to test for biological agents.

What a bizarre story. And the most bizarre part is that our Pentagon has chosen to do nothing. In no other generation or presidency would this have been allowed to happen. You can bet we’ve been tracking it before it touched US soil in Alaska. And yet, here we are.
