The federal government has no business meddling in the state indoctrination centers.

Olog-hai, I have to disagree with you on this. You advocate that all schools must be private, and therefore, must be paid for with non-governmental (town or city) monies. (I can also agree fully that a federal control over education IS a facet of Communism)

I would agree with you fully that there should be a larger role there with commensurate decrease in federal and state taxes to pay for it, but I maintain that local governments at the city and town level should have a major role.

There was a time when this was true, and towns hired their own teachers to teach their own way. If they had poor results, they were free, without the interference of the Federal or State governments (or Teacher’s Unions) to hire and fire teachers and have the final word in what did or did not get taught to students.

This gave direct control over the quality of education. Parents who were dissatisfied with the performance of a teacher didn’t have to try to emply a 3000 mile screwdriver and a forest of union, state, and federal bureaucracy to spur changes, they simply had to provide input at their local level to ensure it was heard and acted upon.

This is why a school like Hillsdale College of MI won’t take a federal dime. You take one penny from the feds and they control 100% of the policies. All this woke/CRT education now in the public schools is because they take federal dollars(albeit only 10% of their budgets). Likewise, states sold their souls to the USDE in 2010 when they took federal dollars after the 2008 financial collaspe to shore up their finances. They had the carrot dangle before them and all they had to do was adopt Common Core, the Marxist educational program. Common Core curriculum is controlled by corporatists and elites. So, DeSantis going after the College Board is like cutting off the head of this vile snake.

You say that local governments at city and town level should have a role in so-called “public” education, but you do not state what that role is and why. Nor do you articulate what shortcomings a fully private education, or for that matter home schooling, might have, or what may judged as being shortcomings.

I was simply disagreeing that “they have no role”. What role they should have is a different discussion.
