Russia blocks US arms control inspectors in blow to milestone treaty, State Department says

Russia is flouting its obligations under a major arms control treaty with the United States, according to State Department officials.

“Russia is not complying with its obligation under the New START Treaty to facilitate inspection activities on its territory,” a State Department spokesman said Tuesday. "Russia’s refusal to facilitate inspection activities prevents the United States from exercising important rights under the treaty and threatens the viability of U.S.-Russian nuclear arms control.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s team outlined that breakdown in a notification to key congressional leaders on Tuesday. The assessment points to the degeneration of the last major arms control treaty between the United States and Russia, after another pair of landmark pacts collapsed amid U.S. allegations that Moscow had violated the deals.

“Russia has a clear path for returning to full compliance,” the State Department spokesman said. “All Russia needs to do is allow inspection activities on its territory, just as it did for years under the New START Treaty, and meet in a session of the Bilateral Consultative Commission. There is nothing preventing Russian inspectors from traveling to the United States and conducting inspections.”

Russia scrapped the commission meeting that was supposed to take place in Cairo in a last-minute snub designed to express displeasure with U.S. aid for Ukraine.

Dear FJB, Your efforts are coming closer to proving your theory whether or not nuclear war is less of a threat than global warming. Keep up the great work, genius.

Democrats screw it up and Republicans will be forced to fix it yet again. Same as it always was.

First, whatever Putin is, he is not a Bolshevik. Second, who are the liars? Merkel. Hollande. Poroshenko. All of whom ADMITTED to conducting the Minsk accords in bad faith. Had those SIGNED treaties, voted on by the UN Security Council been implemented, we would have spared thousands of lives.

And how about Zelensky who claimed his own S-300 was a Russian missile that landed in Poland? Etc. Etc. And it’s not even worth mentioning the Americans like Biden involved in this.

Finally, did Putin sign that agreement? Could be wrong, but I think the START treaties were before his time.

Please, take the beam out of your own eye first…

You know what I found out today? France has fewer howitzers than the number of Ukrainian ones destroyed by Russia last week - 70! Isn’t that a hoot? And here we are invoking Reagan and peace through strength. We can barely defend ourselves at this point. Ukraine is done. And if we don’t start looking after our own affairs, we’ll be done too.

PUUULEEEZ; the US has for all intents and purposes declared war on Russia!
The Russians are supposed to invite a declared enemy into their military basses to see their preparations.

That would really be stupid of them.

I heard that also, and one of the reasons they silence Russia and blocked Russia from the internet.

I also heard economic sanctions are a joke because the financial cheating has been ongoing anyway and one of the reasons Russia went in to Ukraine

most horrible islamist countries : Iran and Chechnya and by the worlds most extreme communist nations : North Korea and Belarus...==

Chechnya is NOT a country but just province of Russia. And they are not islamists but just moderate Muslims.

Also Belarus is NOT a communist. They are capitalist with government corporations like China’s. Actually NORC also goes this direction.

Considering that the Neocons have all but declared war on Russia, it seems rational that Russia would not be too hot on their spies, I mean ‘inspectors’, running around their country at the same time.

Anyway, I’m just as happy to see the nuke treaties between the US and Russia wither on the vine, since there is a now third major player in that game, even if the Neocons haven’t figured it out yet (due to their Russia-hating obsession).

Usually I think like you do.
But this time is different. Actually it’s not even about Ukraine really anymore, it goes beyond that.
I sincerely believe that if we let Russia continue its unprovoked land-grabbing of others territories, it will be emboldened to go way further: invading the Balt States, Poland, Georgia, Moldavia, and why not the rest of Europe, etc... This all creates a precedent and will inspire China to invade Taiwan. In turn that means China takes control of the worlds main production of very specific electronic components which Americas economy entirely depends upon. The domino effect would come back and smash our economy here in the USA.

Yes, usually I’m rather an isolationist. But this new Russian expansionist doctrine tells me we can’t just sit by while all our partners get swallowed by our worst competitors and traditional enemies.
