So why don’t they go back home to their socialist utopias where they can get all of the free housing they want?

They are like the democrats from California who flee to neighboring states and then vote to enact the same left-wing policies that caused them to flee California in the first place.

We already have housing shortages and housing inflation. Increasing demand for apartments and homes by, call it 2 million “families” (the true number of migrants is probably closer to 7 million) is not just going to make legal residents pay more for housing; it’s going to take a decade to build enough housing units and of course the big question - where to build them? They obviously can’t easily build 20,000 new units in New York City. And I bet the border states are loathe to approve large scale housing projects for low income families.
