An international research collaboration that reviewed several dozen rigorous studies of "physical interventions" against influenza and COVID-19 through last year failed to find even a modest effect on infection or illness rates from masks of all qualities.
Published in the peer-reviewed Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, run by the British evidence-based medicine charity Cochrane, the study raises new doubts about ongoing mask mandates and public health recommendations worldwide.
The CDC is still recommending masking in areas with "high" transmission levels — fewer than 4% of U.S. counties — as well as indoor masking to protect high-risk contacts in "medium" counties (27%).
Masks are still required in educational institutions in Democratic strongholds such as New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington and California, according to the Daily Mail. Boston Public Schools denied its "temporary masking protocol" in early January was a "mandate," following a public letter against the policy by student Enrique Abud Evereteze.
South Korea is still requiring masks on public transport and in medical facilities after dropping COVID mandates in most indoor settings, including gyms, Monday, Reuters reported.
The researchers for the Cochrane study are affiliated with a geographically disparate range of institutions in the U.K., Canada, Australia, Italy and Saudi Arabia. Half are affiliated with the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare at Australia's Bond University. The corresponding author is the University of Calgary's John Conly.

It was inevitable that the truth would eventually come out on a strictly scientific basis about masking. The intelligent here are nodding in agreement. With few exceptions, masking is as effective for human health as rubbing clove oil under your nose.
But what is troubling - and will remain unaddressed - is the fact that masking remains an instrument of coercion - for both submission AND stupidity - and will serve as a litmus test for those on both ends of the spectrum - those in authority & those masking outdoors, etc. - until kingdom come.
My daughter is at a convention with all of her co-workers. She said they are all very leftist and many are still masking and all askeered of the virus.
She said she was a little worried because she’s more center right and has the ability to think. She doesn’t intend to wear a mask.

It’s been over a hundred years since the 1918 influenza pandemic. I’m pretty sure people really wanted to believe that a simple cloth covering over the mouth and nose would stop infection.
If it did, why didn’t we all wear masks during the 1957, 1968, and 2009 outbreaks?
Masks are just virtue signaling. It’s a placebo for the weak minded.
Wearing a mask to stop a virus is like putting a chain link fence around your house to stop mosquitoes.

The results of the relatively simple trial reported
here could easily be repeated and it would
be interesting to see whether comparable results
are obtained in emergency, orthopaedic, or
other general surgical theatres. The finding that
there was an appreciable fall in the wound infection
rate when masks were not worn certainly
warrants further investigation. This trial was
designed only to see whether wound infection increased,
as had been predicted, when masks were
not worn. It did not. The conclusion is that
the wearing of a mask has very little relevance
to the wellbeing of patients undergoing routine
general surgery and it is a standard practice
that could be abandoned.
So the surgical masks and all those pretty homemade masks do not work, at all. N95’s, perhaps a teeny tiny bit but really not significant.
What a scam.

I see a lot of young people still wearing them.
It is mostly the young people. Ironically the age group that should be the healthiest of all.
... and that’s only if the N95 or surgical mask is properly selected, properly applied and fit-tested, properly worn and properly maintained by a person trained in mask use. Cloth and disposable masks are not even worth casual discussion.
