In Egypt, homosexuality is highly stigmatised, and there have long been allegations that police are hunting LGBT people online. Now BBC News has seen evidence of how the authorities are using dating and social apps to do this.
All victims' names have been changed
Having grown up in Egypt, I am aware of the pervasive homophobia that permeates every part of its society. But friends there tell me that the atmosphere has recently become far more brutal, and the tactics for tracking down LGBT people more sophisticated.
There is no explicit law against homosexuality in Egypt, but our investigation has found that the crime of "debauchery" - a sex work law - is being used to criminalise the LGBT community. Transcripts submitted in police arrest reports show how officers are posing online to seek out - and in some cases allegedly fabricate evidence against - LGBT people looking for dates online.

I’m sure the queers are upset that the Egyptian cops aren’t hunting them too.
I don’t care what they do behind closed doors. Just don’t shove it in my face
Those days are loooong gone. They’ve been creeping out of the closet since the 1960’s cultural revolution and with the obama era that closet door was removed all together. They are now in our face, all over the place, teaching children and being popularized by TV and news.
Next up is making normal child molesting.
You mean the USA isn’t the most ghastly, homophobic hell-scape on the face of the earth?
They just define it differently. I have read, and heard from some people who have traveled in Islamic countries:
Sex between grown men is not considered homosexuality if the men have wives.
Sex with boys is not considered homosexuality.
Sex between unmarried men can be problematic, if they talk about it too much.
It varies from country to country and from region to region.
“I have long heard that homosexuality is rampant in Islam.”
What gives it away is the way that men are always kissing each other when they meet - absolutely disgusting.
But isn’t the essence of pride to “shove it in your face”?
“I have long heard that homosexuality is rampant in Islam.”
When I was at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia during DESERT SHIELD, I was on a joint patrol with a Saudi MP. In broken English, he told me women were for babies, and boys were for pleasure. I stepped out of his Jeep and finished shift on foot.
Very true. In the Northwestern Province of Pakistan, there is a long celebrated tradition of ritualistic pederasty.
Pedophiles are rampant in Islam because their 'Prophet' was one. The abused kids grow up to become gay. Just another one of Islam's many charms.
“I don’t care what they do behind closed doors...”
I have heard that phrase all my life and I couldn’t disagree more. It is behind closed door that women are abused, raped, mistreated. It is behind closed doors that children abused and exploited - and on and on.
can we do this in the USA?
sanctimonious much?
This reminds me of what Andrew Dice Clay said about bisexuals.
so, you don’t agree with my statement??
Early in my life I was a municipal police officer for a few years and responded to a number of domestic disturbance calls. Some of what we found was sickening.
The worlds globalist, utopian, chaos-causing neo-marxists are now in London and Washington DC
And nowadays, if you don’t openly support and celebrate their perversions, you could lose your job.
How far we have fallen.
...the crime of "debauchery" - a sex work law...
"Sex work" is a spin word for prostitution.
