More than a quarter of Republican voters say they’d back former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election even if he runs as a third-party candidate — possibly threatening to split the GOP electorate as the party seeks to win back the White House.
As the 2024 primary field begins to take shape, a majority of Republican voters are seeking to move past Trump and elevate another candidate as their party’s nominee. However, nearly 30% of “Always Trumpers” may be standing in their way, according to a new poll from the Bulwark.
“A large majority of GOP voters is ready to move on from Donald Trump. But a devoted minority might not let them,” said Sarah Longwell, who conducted the poll. “This is the 'Always Trump' faction of the Republican party. And they are why the GOP could be sleepwalking into another Donald Trump catastrophe.”
In a series of hypothetical matchups between Trump and other potential Republican candidates, polling shows the former president is fading with GOP voters at large. In a crowded primary field between Trump and nine of the party’s top contenders, the former president garnered roughly 28% of the vote — coming in below Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who clinched 39%, according to the poll.

Trump can’t win with 25% of the GOP voters.
The Democrats have full control at least 260 Electoral College votes. Toss in Arizona and Georgia and the number is higher than that.
If anyone thinks that Hobbs will let him win Arizona or that Georgia, Kemp, Raffensberger and Carr, aren’t completely compromised then they need to do some research
Argue it with me all you want. DJT’s advocacy of the killer clotshot is still costing him support.
Where are the lawsuits? I see none.....
They voted at a lower rate prior to 2012. With ballot harvesting they are voting at the highest rate in history.
I have looked for the interview, but there was a local news station in Minnesota that interviewed some tattooed girl after the election. She said her friend talked her into going to vote for Biden but when she arrived she was told that her ballot had already been voted (she did not vote in 2016 - her statement).
Look at how the percentages of registered democrats who vote has risen since they began ballot harvesting. If a registered Republican does not vote in the prior election do you think anyone on the right takes them their ballot?
I am befuddled because many on the right think we need to harvest ballots too. It’s BS and it used to be illegal (and enforced)!!!!! We must stop this or we lose our country. It might be too late already. They have this game down to a science and we will never beat them at it because it is DISHONEST.
Enforce election laws and we win. Allow this insanity and we lose. It really is that simple.
I agree..
Short of some major black swan event...
Trump is the 2024 nominee, and it won’t be close... but that doesn’t mean that that uniparty/globalist/gop establishment won’t do anything they can legally and illegally to keep it from happening.
One war at a time.
“Where are the lawsuits? I see none.....”
That’s because you must first look if you wish to see.
I will still vote for him, but so help me God if he brags about “Warp Speed” one more time my head will explode.
He got played. He still does not understand that but many of us do.
He bragged about saving us 500 million or whatever on the new Air Force 1 planes or he saved us money on the Jerusalem Embassy.
He made the worst deal in history on the vaccines regardless of what you think about them. The only reason they were approved was “Warp Speed” and the NIH owned some of the science. Despite that, Pfizer and Moderna made tens of billions in profits on an experimental drug with no testing (outside of their own “tests”) that were pushed by our government and taxpayers bought most of them (and still do to this day).
They even gave them immunity!!!! You cannot make this crap up.
Fauci took over his Presidency and he allowed it. I would have more respect for him if he would own it, but he won’t. He allowed his own health bureaucracy to shut down every kind of possible treatment that would save lives so they could get a vaccine.
A vaccine that they held until AFTER the election by the way - this alone could have decided it - remember the relief the nation felt after they were released? That is how they paid him for it.
They gave him easy “Trump made it happen” tasks like “ventilators” and “hospital ships or field hospitals” and they did not even use them. Wasn’t that a clue?
It was NOT his finest moment and he still seems oblivious to it.
And you and the rest of the DeSantis fanboys need to figure out how he can win the primary and also, a 260+ advantage in the Electoral College. I merry his buddies Ryan, Bush, Shapiro, Goldberg, Erickson, Boehner, McConnell, cantor, the hedge funds, Wall St, and Griffin have it all figured out
Whoever wins the primary, runs. Period. We don’t have a coronation here. One group seems to be a group of spoiled brats.
If DeSantis wins the primary, great. But off hand, there isn’t anyone else besides Trump that I would vote for that I am aware of who is under serious consideration.
And rather than being creative in voting (I did vote for a former governor of Massachusettes when Romeny ran—I wrote in Coolidge, and I wrote in Palin when she was running for VP—but I opted for Taft at the top of the ticket—he deserved a second term).
Too bad Reagan isn’t eligible for a third term. I was too young to vote for him.
(The constitution does provide that someone who dies will be replaced, but says nothing about someone who is dead when elected).
I just checked all 5 major hospitals in my area. None require a COVID vaccine for admittance. None. Many have dropped the requirement for employment.
Thank you. You’ve very neatly summarized my own view here.
Saxxon and Lily, you might want to give Volunbeer’s post a read.
Unfortunately, etc. will almost certainly run, and not only are we not out of the woods yet, I’m not sure we are even out of the Bushes, although we can hope so.
Name the five hospitals, please.
Thanks for pointing up thread. A good post indeed.
The primaries will be difficult, to be sure, seeing how a significant plurality of Republican primary voters seem to want to spend election night throwing a Peoples Temple Kool-Aid Fiesta.
But in the event DeSantis does win the primaries, and is able to retain those MAGA voters who didn't choose political suicide, he could conceivably flip AZ, GA, and VA. That's 272 electoral votes and the keys to the White House.
Here is the ph. no. to one of them (804) 325-8812. Ask if they require proof of vax prior to in-patient preceedures. Go ahead ask them yourself.
It bears repeating:
The “Only Trumpers” are just as irrational and damaging to the conservative cause as are the “Never Trumpers”
I would but I don’t think Trump would do it.
Not voting for anyone who runs against Trump in 2024.
