TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Top Republican legislators in Kansas are focusing on helping conservative parents remove their children from public schools over what’s taught about gender and sexuality rather than pursuing a version of what critics call Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law.
A proposal to allow parents to use state tax dollars to pay for private or home schooling was to be available online Tuesday, a day after a committee on K-12 spending introduced the measure in the House.

A similar bill just was signed into law in Iowa. Haven’t heard of any lawsuit yet but it was promised
Lived in KCK for many years; left in 2018. Given, we were in the farthest reaches of the Westernparts of the county. This ‘protected’ us to a degree of the political failure of leadership there. After one contentious election year (2016) a school funding local tax was on the ballot. It lost by 70%+ (Local voters!)
In the wisdom of the school board they decided to sue the state for proper funding- along with 4 other of the ‘wealthiest’ school districts in the state. I considered that a big slap in the face and showing us the middle finger.
So corrupt. So much so that sending a child to the quality private schools that exist there was as much as $5000/yr cheaper than what it cost the PS to fail children.

The article does not mention the fact that many minority category parents also prefer school choice. It is an idea whose time has come.
