I agree that signature verification may be prone to errors.

I am for verifying absentee ballots by requiring the absentee voter to write their drivers license (or state ID) number on the inner envelope. There would be no confusion about a signature, which can vary naturally. Primarily, there could only be one vote per DL/State ID number.

Is it not quite plausible that a well organized fraud campaign, for example say one run by the secretary of state, might have access to the drivers license/State ID numbers of the voters?
