I reject the oxymoron term “federal worker.” Most never do any work.

When there is actual “work” needing to be done, the federal government hires contractors whose employees do the work, though at outrageous cost.

GS-14 Air Traffic Controller is not really journeyman level. It is someone with incredible experience and capability.

The GS-14 level includes the most difficult and complex control work in the radar approach control terminals. The GS-14 work situation involves radar control under the most demanding and stressful conditions, which surpass the difficulties inherent in the radar work situation typical of the GS-13 level.
This level of control work is characterized by the requirement for handling sustained traffic densities that are appreciably greater than the extremely heavy densities of traffic typical of the GS-13 level. The pace of work is such that there are virtually no lulls in activity with peak periods tending to overlap. Continual, rapid and very precise coordination of control actions is required, not only within the terminal, but also between the terminal and the adjacent center(s) to accept or handoff aircraft.

Cut their pay in half instead.

YES to both your suggestions. Federal employees are WAY overpaid already.

Especially the 50% who are schlepping around government buildings everyday sucking their . . . thumbs. Oh, and also the huge number who, since the Covid nonsense, are “working from home”!

hell I WAS a federal worker and this pisses me off.

Likewise.

I was in when WIN was all the rage.

I lost money I NEVER got back.

Retired as soon as possible because retirees were getting COLAs and we working stiffs got 5.5%.

Some retirees ended up with MORE money by no longer working than those who were stuck in their positions.

I doubt there are any fed employees still working CSRS left.

I was under this when FERS came in.

We were given the choice to stay or switch.

I stayed and darned glad I did!

All federal employees hired after 1984 are on Social Security under FERS. I doubt there are any fed employees still working CSRS left.

My Dad is CSRS and just retired about two months ago. There are still a handful that I know about - all are in their 70s and mainly working because its something they can do to keep busy.
