Amid the smoke of war, power in Europe is shifting decisively to the east
The Guardian ^ | 29 January 2023 | Jonathan Eyal

While Germany’s Olaf Scholz was dragging his feet over tanks for Ukraine, the Baltic states and Poland gained moral ground

...reports from Berlin indicate that, far from being apologetic about his dithering, Scholz believes that he has acquitted himself well. He kept his Social Democratic party united on a profoundly controversial question. He also persuaded the Americans to supply their tanks alongside Germany’s.

Sadly, much of this positive narrative is wishful thinking, for it ignores both the abrupt collapse of Germany’s influence in Europe and the continent’s profound strategic transformation because of the Ukraine war.

The decision to supply Ukraine with tanks amounts to a significant deepening of western military involvement in the conflict; Ukraine’s western backers have agreed to take a higher risk because they concluded – correctly – that allowing Putin’s war of attrition to continue is far riskier.

...The continent’s strategic centre of gravity has shifted decisively from its western tip, where Germany and France used to decide matters, and towards central and eastern Europe. Throughout the Ukraine war, pressure from countries such as the Baltic states and Poland forced Berlin into making a choice. These nations have gained moral authority because they were far more lucid and realistic about the danger of an imperial Russia and are also exercising a more direct and practical influence over the continent’s decision-making.

This means that some of the old dreams about promoting a “European strategic autonomy” distinct from the US are redundant; Scholz indirectly acknowledged Europe’s dependence on the US

...Britain remains a critical player in European security, notwithstanding Brexit. Despite the absence of any formal security connection with the EU, its reputation, footprint and influence in the conduct of the Ukraine war are far more extensive than that of either France or Germany.

Great meme. It drives the point home.

It is missing the countries of Somalia, Libya, and Cuba.

Germans would do well to consider the words of Maria Zakharova, ominously dressed in black, presented 1/27/2023. It should be compulsory for Americans who inexplicably support the US govt., the ramrod behind this treachery.

You have roused the bear.

Zakharova’s POWERFUL Message To Olaf Scholz (EN Translated)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv7yEI5YRZc

“Maria Zakharova delivered a moving and powerful message to Olaf Sholz following his disastrous decision to open old wounds by delivering German Panzers once again to fight Russians. If you ever doubted the hurt, pain and trauma that is remembered, and still felt and carried by Russian people to this day, just look into Maria Zakharova’s eyes as she recounts the words of her Grandmother.”

It is becoming clearer every day ( if you don’t listen to western fake MSM):

Ukraine 1991-2023 RIP.

The Ukrainians, Baltics and Poles (and tons of others) could say the same in re Russia. Why is one persons emotion supposed to trump some other persons emotion?

The answer is that Russians are incapable of understanding other peoples emotions. It is that national, collective “dark triad” (psychopathy, narcissism, Machiavellianism) psychology that afflicts Russia.

And are you joining the emotional narrative generated by the Russian “dark triad”? Its ridiculous for an American to do that.

Its absurd, this sympathy for a pscho narrative. Its buying in to someone elses narcissistic self obsession. Its rejecting all other peoples in preference to one, who, to the deluded, seems to matter more than everyone else.

Germany is right to be leery as to what the US is leading them into. If the idiots in Poland and the Baltic states want an expansion of this war, let their people fight it themselves and on their dime and leave the rest of us out of it.

That’s a wilted bowl of word salad you’ve got there. I have no idea what that means and neither do you.

Yes. People who are trying to be good can become smarter and stronger with hardships.

“If they wanted a fight they’ve got one. All of them.”

You sound as though you have moved in loyalty completely to Russia, as though you see them as the hope for the future and want them to gain the power to enforce their rule of it, for all of us.

What things seem like to you makes no difference to me. If you don’t give a damn about anybody else, that’s fine.

The bottom line is who is arming who on who’s border.

The US is causing a great deal of harm to itself, on top of everyone else, second only to the US backed former state of Ukraine.

Europeans are going to come to understand who destroyed Nord I and Nord II. They are going to come to understand who was behind the Maidan Coup. When they do they might very will kick troublemaking Americans out for good.

That spells the end of US hegemony, petro-dollar, and reserve currency. Big trouble, because most of what the US manufactures is fiat, debt, overpriced weapons, threats, excuses, and morons.

Whatever all that was about, I was asking about your enthusiasm for Russia defeating NATO that you posted.

You don’t know right from wrong, and, you are dense.

Russia was provoked by the US, repeatedly. And warned, repeatedly. The US can not continue to behave this way. Russia is stopping them. That includes NATO. They are all asking for trouble, and now they have it.

If Russia does not prevail there will be no checks or balances for the “World Police”, a govt. that is bankrupt in every conceivable way. All major institutions have failed in fantastic corruption. As a country it cannot even perform rudimentary functions. For example, elections. That will be bad for everyone.

You can have the last word, for now.
