Oh, there are plenty of emotion-laden speech triggers to explain “ why” the US needs to defend Ukraine from the evil world-domination seeking Russians.
Heavily laden with terms like “ democracy” and “ Russian aggression” sprinkled with jingoism about “ war crimes”
The quiet part is….how, and what a realistic ( note term realistic) victory looks like and what it will cost. To make Russia quit and withdraw. If that is our sole condition.
Is this a border war? Or more? Are borders worth defending to general war between nuc powers? Is nuclear escalation justified? US citizens on the battlefront? A US national draft to support war posture? Honesty please.
Don’t hold your breath.
The quiet part was never fully rationalized….or achieved…in Afghanistan, or Vietnam
Looking back at my part in those conflicts, it appears that the Political Military Industrial Complex created markets and created Customer States, err ah, countries on the US side. In VN we ensured Thailand was firmly in the US camp. Afghanistan ensured our effective exit strategy from the ME since no one trusts us (US) anymore.
