I know this looks open and shut, but in a just society they have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Having proven their guilt, they can spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Yes, this would seem to be a case that any competent defense lawyer could use reasonable doubt to win. As presented, if I were a juror the state would have to present something more compelling than what I am seeing.
