The government of Russia dismissed the potential on Tuesday of a shipment of dozens of American tanks, promised by left-wing President Joe Biden, to change the momentum of its invasion of Ukraine, suggesting they would “burn just like all the others.”
Top Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday, following Biden’s announcement, that the plan to equip Ukraine with tanks in anticipation of the ground in the country thawing in spring was “disastrous.”
“I am certain that many experts understand the absurdity of this idea. The plan is disastrous in terms of technology,” Peskov said during his daily press briefing, according to Reuters. “But above all, it overestimates the potential it will add to the Ukrainian army.”

Instead of tanks, if we have to give them something, we should lend them some A-10’s........................
Tanks are death traps
Big words from the all-time turret-tossing champions of the world.
A-10s wouldn’t last a week.
This is the densest SAM environment in the history of warfare.
And Russia has air superiority.
And can bomb any airport the A-10s will base out of.
Tanks without support are death traps like the Russians proved
Thanks with APCs IFVS and associated infantry are still susceptible but much less so
Thank goodness the Russian bureaucracy is deeply entrenched with their artillery so they are real good at blowing up buildings and where Ukrainian mobile assets were
Sad thing is, he is correct. They will burn if not utilized as part of a combined arms team. The Russians claim to know how to do this, but so far haven’t impressed. If they get it right, the meme of brave Ukrainian heroes picking off lone Russian tanks will lead to them being killed before the Russian tank commander’s tea gets cold.
TKO in the first round.
Well played, Sir!
Hello. Is there a way that A-10s could be supported there and be effective, given that WE keep trying to phase them out of OUR forces? There’s been a back and forth between Congress and the Defense Dept. over this for years now. Why not give them ALL to the Ukes and support them. In for a penny , in for a pound? Change my mind please.
Respectfully.
Did you even read the article?
TKO goes to the side with better training, leadership, experience and motivation.
Hint...that ain’t Ukraine.
“Tass published an interview with an alleged “armor expert” who claimed that aging Soviet weapons could easily destroy M1 Abrams tanks, claiming they are difficult to repair in the war theater and “went up in flames” in Iraq.”
The newest M1A2sp3 comes in at about 73 tons, much greater than the intial m1a1 at 55 tons. The increase from the initial version is based upon the increase in gun from 105 to 120 mm, and now the INCREASE in ARMOR protection in the top and bottom of the tank to repel IED’s and top guided weapons (like drone strikes).
This tank is truly a ‘Heavy’ tank compared to all of the Russian series which would be medium tanks. Has demonstrated remarkable variability and especially crew survivability. On dry open ground, despite what the Russians say, it’s a game changer when used with infantry support vehicles (Bradley’s).
I have not, and still do not, support giving Ukraine these types of weapons. Telling people the old Russian hardware can compete with this tank is just outright propaganda. My advice is peace.
Then declare war.
And accept the consequences.
Oh wait, what?
only a TKO?
Well, you raise good questions.
What model tanks?
What kind of training?
What kind of combined arms tactics?
How to fix and maintain? Who is even gonna do that?
How to supply them with fuel? They are fuel guzzling monsters.
How are they gonna operate in mud, bridges that can’t support them, swamps, etc.
I believe you are correct. Having watched 100s of YouTube videos of both both sides tanks, neither side maneuvers their vehicles in a strategic way.
They both just seem to drive up and down roads waiting to be drowned. Rommel would be horrified by the lack of coordination of maneuver. Its like they don't even have comms or at least no one is talking to each other.
(and I retired from a career in the biz)
I assume the trained pilots will go along with that package?
