He added that invading Russian forces had obliterated the nearby town of Soledar, so the Ukrainian military had taken the decision to leave it.
Serhiy Cherevatyi, the spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, announced on Jan. 25 that Ukrainian troops had withdrawn from Soledar to save lives, as the main task there had been accomplished.

Probably the Americans are correct. Fall back and hold better defensive positions until more equipment and newly trained troops arrive.
Then again, I believe the Ukrainians are sending the message to Russia that they will have to go through costly urban warfare for any significant objective.
America also wants Ukraine to stabilize the East and shift attacks to the South.

It is BS. Russian side is mostly fighting by air and artillery in the area and seldom reconnaissance in force by Wagners to check out if there are still rats under the rubble. Galician losses are 20 to 1 at the very least.
