Saying that an African American studies course "lacks educational value," Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration is defending its rejection of the curriculum....
Black lawmakers, religious leaders and local elected officials are organizing events to speak out after the state Department of Education's Office of Articulation....
"We believe in teaching kids facts and how to think, but we don't believe they should have an agenda imposed on them. When you try to use [black] history to shoehorn in queer theory, you are clearly trying to use that for political purposes," DeSantis said.
..."Intersectionality is foundational to CRT (critical race theory), and ranks people based on their race, wealth, gender and sexual orientation," one of the listed concerns said. DeSantis frequently decries critical race theory, which is based on the premise that racism is embedded in American society, characterizing the theory as a vehicle for the indoctrination of students.
The department said a concern about instruction related to the reparations movement is that all "points and resources in this study advocate for reparations."

Almost like they're coordinating a response.
Florida ping?
This man is fearless in his slaughtering of sacred cows.
While Trump largely focused on economic issues, DeSantis is making the culture war and "anti-woke" the cornerstone of his leadership.
Both should be embraced. Economic and culture. Not much for DeSantis to do with Florida's already booming, low tax economy though. Can't fix what ain't broke.
Oh, but we have so many FReepers who are absolutely convinced that DeSantis is Deep State and all these conservative actions are more hollow than if he just had conservative words.

desantis released a statement last week instructing people not to donate any money to any organization that claims he’s running for president in 2024...
DeSantis gets it.
The problem is that our country is under attack from many directions and by many enemies. And it is important that we fight them all.
DeSantis and Trump are filling the leadership vacuum. Hopefully, other less powerful leaders will join them in the run-up to 2024 (it's next year BTW--coming at us like a runaway freight train).
Obviously, because theyâre scams.
When DeSantis officially announces, heâll have legitimate fundraising machines going.
Desantis asks a good question. How is âQueer studiesâ part of AA studies course?
It sure is, and because there are no longer legal fair elections and because AS USUAL dam republicans wait till last minute for viable candidate, we are destined to remain on this terrifying run away train!
Yeah. He is/was a hunk.
That's why Trump was and is so popular.
The problem with the Republicans is that they are part of the Swamp and the Swamp is so corrupt that it is incapable of defending anything but itself.
I wish Trump would take him as Vice and set him up for a 12 year GOP run. That would spin this country around. We can only hope that they don’t fight and join forces!
To do that, one of them has to leave Florida. The Constitution prohibits the electoral votes from a single state to go to presidential and vice presidential candidates from that state.
The purpose is to prevent a single state from dominating the Union.
Oh, like California is dominating the country? Everything they come up with like “safety gas cans” and “reparations” goes viral to the rest of the country. And let’s not forget their banning certain things like ICE vehicles and appliances.
What’s there to defend? It’s all bullsh*t. We went through this crap before with the retarded “afro-centrists” who gave us Kwanzaa.
A major reason for believing DeSantis is Deep State comes from the relentless attacks on him by Conservative Treehouse, Sundance and the @thelastrefuge2.
I trust no one on earth beyond my ability to verify their actions. DeSantis has not always been a warrior in politics, especially his early years in politics. However, he has shown since becoming Governor that he not only talks but takes action on his words.
When President Trump announced for President in 2015 he had less of an action record and his past actions made him suspect as to advancing the principles many of us came to admire.
Not so sure about that.
Under the original system electors would vote and the winner would be President and the runner up would be VP. What they ended up with was a President and VP from different parties. Not an optimal situation.
Here’s the pesky Article II clause.
“Article II states: âThe electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.â
Nothing states that both candidates can’t be from the same state. Only that electors can not vote for two persons from their own state.
The 12th Amendment (1804) mandated separate votes for President and VP but did not address the issue of both candidates being from the same state.
In a tight race like GW Bush vs Gore (five electoral vote difference) no doubt the Dems would have gone squealing to the SCOTUS about the Article II wording. Most other elections have had enough spread that it wouldn’t have mattered. This definitely needs to be taken care of in some way.
MEDIA TALKING POINTS MEMO:
OK gang, it worked with our creation of the “Don’t Say Gay” law, so let’s all see if we can get lightning to strike twice.
