Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a proposal for a ‘Teacher’s Bill of Rights’ on Monday, which includes provisions to increase teacher pay, alter school board member term limits, and impose new school union regulations.
Speaking at a press conference in Jacksonville, DeSantis detailed his proposal to lawmakers that would allocate $1 billion to increase pay for teachers across the state.
If adopted, the proposition would increase funding for teacher salaries by $200 million dollar compared to the year prior.
The proposal package also takes a swipe at teacher unions, outlining a series of regulations that would prohibit unions from deducting dues from the paychecks of members.
“[Unions] are not going to have, if we do these reforms, automatic deductions for school union dues,” said the governor. “If you want to do it, send money, that’s fine. But to have it automatically deducted … they don’t even tell you how much is being deducted. We want more transparency into how that is done, and we believe that school unions have a responsibility to notify members of the cost of membership.”
Further, the policy would require a 60 percent participation rate among employees to exist and prevent any school union executive from being paid more than the highest-paid member.
Any literature pertaining to joining or starting a school union would additionally be prohibited in workplace settings, including school campuses.
Americans for Prosperity applauded the measures, stating that the legislation would promote personal freedoms.

DeSantis for making it a priority of his administration to empower individuals over organizations when it comes to union membership in Florida, said Americans for Prosperity-Florida State Director Skylar Zander. “Hardworking Americans deserve the freedom to choose whether they want to join a union and how their dues are collected.”

Smart move. In order to protect their Union buddies and cash cow, the remaining Dems we have in the State House are going to have to come out against pay raises for teachers. Lol..
DeSantis is GREAT on domestic and social issues, unfortunately he’s also a neocon who is onboard with these endless wars, so that kinda takes away from his good qualities. I’m still sticking with Trump although I’m not overly fond of him on a personal level.
Forget any across the board “pay boost” Better pay for better quality.
He keeps doing “little” things that add up to restoring liberty.
Reducing highway tolls, eliminating mask and shot mandates, now this. I want him to stay in Florida. The power,going forward, is in the states, not federal. Needs this full term as governor.
What makes you say this? I've never heard DeSantis say anything one way or another about our fruitless and never-ending forays into foreign conflicts, although he himself served overseas. What is the source of your information, please?

We see this sort of negative rhetoric quite often -- but it amounts to nothing but someone's opinion, and hardly something to base a concrete judgement upon.
It was DeSantis’s support for the rabid neocon Marco Rubio over Trump in the 2016 primaries that concerns me, as well as a few other things like his receiving large donations from establishment sources. Well if he decides to run he will have the opportunity to clarify his intended foreign policy, but at the moment he is so far behind Trump in the polls that I don’t see him running unless the deep state somehow manages to keep Trump out of the race.
DeSantis supported Rubio, this is true, but then again, so did I... until too many of his positions once attaining office proved to be less than satisfying, to say the least. DeSantis has not commented on this prior support, so who knows if he still feels that way. It's also noteworthy that Donald Trump rallied behind Marco's re-election, and that has been greatly credited with keeping Rubio in office.
DeSantis' position as a more hard-line conservative and traditionalist have increased dramatically since his election as Florida's governor, that much is certain. He has, willfully or no, now placed himself well ahead of almost the rest of the pack, and he shows no sign of slowing down. He often goes on the offensive, which itself is remarkable in this day and age. So, again, I say give him the benefit of the doubt on this 'neocon' and 'MAGA spoiler' stuff -- his deeds are telling the tale.

I’m not inclined to give any politician the benefit of the doubt. DeSantis has the option to make clear his foreign policy views at any time, so far he has remained somewhat ambiguous, but appears to be supportive of the current war in Ukraine.
Personally I suspect DeSantis because of his military background (he was the lawyer overseeing prisoner abuse at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib) and Ivy league connections, is a deep stater just waiting in the wings to see if the anti-Trumper establishment is able to keep Trump from running by filing bogus charges against him. I guess we will just have to wait an see how all of this plays out.
We will see how things turn out, that much is certain. I hold the position that you will be very pleasantly surprised.
I’d love to see DeSantis renounce neocon policy, if he did so unambiguously I would even prefer him over Trump. But somehow I think that unlikely to happen, but if it does, then yes I would be very happy.
