Was privileged to attend an event last night where former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, spoke. He said his take on the issue of Taiwan was that most likely the CCP will not invade, but continue to use every measure of pressure, and covert action, to subvert Taiwan’s democracy over the next decade, until they have a politically compliant Taiwan. He had too many audience questions to answer during the Q & A session at the end, that I could not ask him what leads him to see it that way. Would like to know what information, type of information gave him that view.
Once Joe’s gone, all bets are off.

With what is happening in Ukraine I would think twice if I were Xi. China has not fought an all out war since 1953. How good is there military in reality? Just look at what happened to Russia! Our willingness and the willingness of other countries to support the Ukraine and the failure of Russia to win its war should defiantly give China pause! Also just think what an economic embargo like we and other countries did to Russia would do to China, I would not be surprised if they decided not to attack. Our support of the Ukraine is the best deterrent to China’s attacking of Taiwan.

China is not invading Taiwan any time soon. And, if they do…it won’t be a secret. You simply cannot mass the troops, mass the ships, and start them on their way without everyone in the world knowing about it.

He won’t do it until he can be reasonably certain of accomplishing it without screwing up their tech sector. Taiwan makes a lot of money, and that money is the best reason to take them over. Also if they can manage to not have a serious interruption of service that will end a lot of the push to “save” Taiwan.
