Islamabad (AFP) – A massive power breakdown across Pakistan continued after night fell on Monday, affecting most of the country's 220 million residents, including in the mega cities of Karachi and Lahore.
Pakistan's national power system is a complex and delicate web where problems can quickly cascade.
The breakdown was caused by a fault in the national grid at around 7:30 am (0230 GMT), plunging much of the country into darkness.
"We hope that the electricity will be restored throughout the country by tonight," Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir Khan said in a video statement.
The cut was caused by a variation in frequency on the national grid as power generation units were turned on early in the morning.
The units had been temporarily switched off at night to save fuel, Khan earlier told the media.
Localised power cuts are common in Pakistan and hospitals, factories and government institutions are often kept running by private generators. The machines are, however, beyond the means of most citizens and small businesses.
In parts of northern Pakistan, temperatures were due to drop below freezing on Monday night with supplies of natural gas -- the most common heating method -- also unreliable due to load-shedding.

I heard they saw someone running away from the power station with scissors, a maga hat and a noose....
Luckily, residents were still able to stone women during the outage…

Quick! More solar mills and wind panels STAT! The Slurpee machine us at risk.
This is coming to a neighborhood near you. I just finished installing my Generac and it will be on line on the 31st. This is not random IMO
And where will you get the natural gas to power your General?
What’s your fuel? I have a 9500 KW generator and purchased a “Tri-fuel” valve. I have gasoline storage and also 2-100 lb LP bottles. Also, the option to use natural gas-—However, I feel this is the only part of my prepping where I don’t feel fully prepared. Between kerosene, generator, wood and back up I might have 3 weeks of power/heat (24/7) or 4-6 weeks of turning 12 hr use. I guess getting through cold spells is the main concern.
Pakistan is the most problematic of all the major nations. Iran functions far better than Pakistan.

Here is where the people at the WEF want us to be.
They want us all freezing in the dark, owning nothing and being happy about it.
How are they gonna buy anything with cryptocurrencies or bank digital currency?
I think, there will come a time, in which if you don’t have a wood-burning stove and a generator, things are gonna get very primordial here in America!
The scary part is that they may sell off their nuclear weapons to help their dying economy
Obviously they need more windmills..............
Quick- switch to electric vehicles! That’ll fix the problem!
Hahaha, well played sir.
The memory of British India, maybe, doesn’t seem quite as bad.
