HERMAN, WI (AP) — A company that operates a southern Wisconsin wind farm is investigating what caused part of a wind turbine and its blades to plummet to the ground, leaving debris strewn across a field.
No one was injured Wednesday night when the blades and top portion of a wind turbine collapsed in Dodge County, near the town of Herman.
The turbine, which is part of the Butler Ridge wind farm, stands about 400 feet above the ground, according to the National Weather Service.
Mark Dietrich, whose father owns the property where the collapse occurred, told WISN-TV that a nearby resident said that when it collapsed “they both heard it and it shook their house."
Dietrich said he’s glad nobody was hurt, although massive pieces of debris were left scattered across the ground and there is a large crater from the impact.
“That’s a lot of weight coming down at one time. It left quite the crater,” he said.
NextEra Energy Resources owns the turbine. The company said in statement that it believe that “this was an isolated incident as turbine malfunctions are rare."
The company said it is working to determine “the cause of the turbine failure and assessing other turbines on site as a quality-control measure.”

Every time I see “subsidies” I can’t help but think of what (actually who) helped propel Elon Musk into one of the richest men in the world category.
How much energy is expended in obtaining raw materials, manufacturing, transporting, building, and servicing each of these? All of those factors should be considered in determining their ‘carbon footprint’. Also, how much energy is expended in clearing land and building roads for these?
What are their environmental impacts (e.g. killing of birds, loss of carbon uptake by trees cleared to make room for them etc.)? How much energy is expended in replacing them and disposal of the old structures?
Unless you’re in the middle of Alaska, hundreds of miles from any electrical grid, wind turbines make zero sense (other than, of course, as a conduit for subsidies to fly by night wind turbine installers). The whole idea is contrary to the concept of economy of scale. A conventional power plant contains all the necessary components in one big building, which by virtue of being on the ground is also easily accessible for maintenance and upgrades.
Wind farms, on the other hand, replace the small number of large generators at a power plant with hundreds of smaller generators, perched hundreds of feet in the air and spread over many miles of territory. Using hundreds of small generators is much less efficient and much less cost effective than the traditional approach, because you’re unnecessarily duplicating the generator hardware on a smaller scale, over and over and over. It’s like the difference between flying several hundred passengers somewhere in a single 747 versus flying them individually in 350 separate Cessna 152s. The Cessna approach, like the wind turbine idea, is absurdly inefficient and there’s no practical reason for it.
As soon as the wind farms are completed, they are sold to a third party
My friends found this out when the iron-clad contracts they signed (leasing) were worthless when the projects were completed. The new owners don’t care about “contracts” as they didn’t sign them
The access road maintenance across the fields (all agricultural) is also a mess. The owners don’t care. The farmers thought they would make a lot of money, Caliche on the fertile soil renders it useless
at least he has something to show for it... unlike most subsidies...
Who says those blades can’t be recycled?

(not the Bee)
There is a huge push for these monstrosities - over 1200 of them - off the coast of NC by enviroMENTALISTS who are against ONE oil rig off the coast being installed. ONE.
Each wind turbine needs to be drilled 300 feet into the bedrock - a complete environmental disaster and will disrupt the fish and wildlife, not to mention the millions of birds that will be slaughtered by the blades. The wind turbines need gas to work and when they are no longer operational, they just install more. The nonworking ones are NOT removed.
Whose landfill gets filled up by that thing?
If there’s anything to this and its the same case here, from Australia...
...holy moly!
.
Probably often enough so as to be problematic.
did it hit a low-flying UFO?
If a stupid section 8 housing tenant can screw the system,A genius certainly could.
My friends talk all the time how if we wanted to work the system we wouldn’t have to work another day.
Same with solar farms.
Salt the earth.
+1.
You silly! Taxpayers will naturally foot the bill! Better together! Rah! Rah! (puke)
Me too. I. Think our side is always easily distracted. Trump… the man of eminent domain who gave us mail in ballots, bumpstock bans, endless covid spending, lockdowns and operation warp speed is a big gun guy too. I cannot imagine what he thought every time he heard lock her up..
Anyone with one memory pocket left knew he was a friend of the Clinton’s.
Despite his record of all of the above, they still believe a NYC elitist will save them.
The dems no longer needed trump after he handed the keys over to Fauci.
He has watched the military eliminate people who refuse the jab and still supports the vax and however many lives he says he saved.
Truth is… many of us were in the hospitals watching people get turned away with no early treatment.. some of those were lives lost or lives changed from productive to disabled.
“Do you think the companies that bought them or manufactured them will still be around?”
Case in point? 0bama and Solyndra. (Solar scam.) Once our ‘betters’ get their hands on the cash, it’s all over for the rest of us.

Over the past few years, we fought HARD to keep huge transmission towers from being built bringing electricity from Iowa to Madison & Chicago - and totally bypassing US! No electricity for YOU - but we’ll rape your ‘Driftless’ pristine landscape and thumb you in the eye as we pass!
Obviously, we lost that one - BUT we were able to keep the towers along major highways and not through our beautiful countryside.
If I’m honest, they gave us two choices, but they threatened us with the second route (digging up the countryside) so we’d stop fighting them on the route they wanted IN THE FIRST PLACE...which was along major highways.
And they complain about Global BS Warming when the REAL harm done to the Earth is something like this, and the Solar Scam I listed above, as well as wind towers falling on our heads!

The factor of, ‘It makes me FEEL good!’ by the Enviro Weenies is priceless, though. You can’t put a dollar amount on that.

The wind turbine had eaten its fill of birds and decided to lie down and take a nap.
