And in the case of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were, indeed, multiple causes:

1. Putin thought that attacking Ukraine would be an easy win and would bolster his image.

2. Putin thought invading Ukraine would distract from problems on the domestic front.

3. Putin is an incompetent military strategist and grossly miscalculated.
