Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) said on Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that President Joe Biden’s invitation to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to discuss the debt ceiling was a “good thing.”
Partial transcript as follows:
MARGARET BRENNAN: Right. And that may take some time. I want to ask you about some of the business that Congress will have to get to soon. As you know, the White House wants a clean lift to the debt limit with no strings attached. Senator Manchin said it’s a mistake for the White House to refuse to negotiate with Republicans. Do you think that position is changing? Is it a mistake?

JUST SAY NO !!!
This will be the first major test for McCarthy because he has the power (just like the 20 did during the speaker vote) to either say “no” or to get a lot of concessions for saying yes.
While I would love to see him say “no” there is not support among a majority of republicans on the hill to do it.
Will McCarthy get a lot out of the negotiation and use his power or will he return to his milquetoast roots? We will see. I don’t expect much, but maybe I will be surprised.
Hmmm...I remember Obama’s invitation to Boehner for a round of golf, just the two of them.
Wait...Pres. Biden blinks ?
So your kid calls you to their room to discuss the debt limit you’ve imposed on their spending and you obediently go.
No negotiations
Lots of Houses votes
Bill 1: Reform 1, Debt Limit Increase 1
Bill 2: Reform 2, Debt Limit Increase 2
Bill 3: Reform 3, Debt Limit Increase 3
....
Hundreds of bills - Hundreds of possible ways forward
Some reforms might be exceptionally easy, say:
1. $1 billion increase for every time Biden says the national debt is about $100,000 per American that gets aired on a unique national NBC/ABC/CBS weekday 5pm to 8pm news show, up to a total of $50 billion
2. $50 billion increase if a Refugee Convention Article 44 denunciation from the US is received by the Secretary of the UN by March 1st 2023 (to get our borders solely under the control of US law a year later).
Let the American people know that Republicans are working hard to get the nation’s finances in order.
The more negotiations drag on the less negotiation room Republicans will have.
Don’t put all the Republican ‘eggs’ in one basket because Biden and Schumer can and will try to smash all of them.
Put each Republican idea into legislative form and have the Republicans & Democrats vote:
yes for reform & financial responsibility
no for continued irresponsibility
If a bill has 200 reforms, most Democrats will have reason to fight it.
If a bill has one reform, far fewer Democrats will have reason to fight it.
Given Senate Democrats & then Biden lots of actual chances to increase the debt limit in steps.
Inch the Republican way forward as a ‘camel’ would into a ‘tent’.
If Senate Democrats get 500 different bills approved by the House and vote down all (or most) of them then the American people will know which political party is unreasonable and irresponsible.
McCarthy: I’ve never had such a wonderful dinner and this restaurant is so fancy. Never been to La Diplomate before. And I’m embarrassed to admit that one glass of white Zinfandel has gone straight to my head. Where do I sign the surrender papers?
Biden Aide: And you can even keep this fancy pen.
McCarthy: A great day for reaching across the aisle. I’m feeling like I want to lie down now. So tired.
Hey is Kaine running for re-election?
Tell Kaine to tell Biden that Joe must meet him in Union Station at noon on Tuesday and be prepared to listen to what the House will demand. Tell Kaine if Joe opens his pie hole, the meeting ends. The final line from McCarthy to Kaine should be, “I do not care what you want because you and your administration caused this problem.
Kaine is a despicable anti-American POS, and the morons who voted for him are too!
