former U.S. military official has outlined a road map for Ukraine to pursue efforts to "lease out" a mercenary air force from the U.S. government as the country struggles to maintain air superiority in its war with Russia.

Flying Tigers. That went well. No way that’s gonna get us into a shooting war with Japan.
The USAF has the the world’s set of planes
The world’s second best are those sitting in the boneyards of Arizona.
There are 1000 F-16s alone sitting their gathering sand that we have no plans to use again.
Bring over a bunch of Ukrainians. Train them on our planes. Send them back the Ukraine. War is over soon after at much lower expense than we are currently investing.
Step by step closer to war with Russia. Where those planes fly from will become legitimate targets.
That defeats the purpose of having the stupid war in the first place.
Why use aircraft destined for the scrap heap when you can use F-22 Raptors at a cost of $200 million apiece? Corporate-government fascism doesn’t work if you’re prudent with money.
Simple, train Ukrainian pilots. No one wants US servicemen involved in the war, not the US and not Ukraine.
>> Simple, train Ukrainian pilots.
Yeah it should only take a week to train a Ukie to fly a jet, right? Ten days at the outside.
Simple.
Yes, it must be the fault of those who are helping Ukraine defend itself, not of the Russians who invaded.
And the U,S, will pay for it too.

We could always to try to negotiate a peace too...
I know...crazy talk.
Conversion to a front line combat aircraft for a new pilot would usually take about six months to become limited combat ready. However, a more experienced pilot would take less than half that time, and someone requalifying on type after a break would only take a few weeks. If operational reasons demanded, then a much shorter course for experienced pilots learning a new type, focussed only on the relevant tactics and weapons, could be done in four to six weeks, much of which could be done on simulators.

If we had some ham, we could have ham and eggs, if we had some eggs.
Where are all these experienced Ukie pilots? (Ukraine wasn’t exactly known as a world-class air power, post-USSR.) Where are all these simulators?
The Ukrainian War is going so well that they have run out of Ukrainians.
On the other hand, EU countries manufacture and fly war planes. Good ones I’m told.
Why the hell can’t the EU train all these Ukie pilots and give ‘em planes to fly? Why does it ALWAYS come down to Uncle Sugar’s blood and treasure?
Russian fighter jets are struggling in Ukraine, but Ukraine can’t beat their missiles and radars, researchers say
While the Russian air force dominates, neither is able to operate well given the ground anti-aircraft missile defenses. Ground attack aircraft have to operate at treetop level to avoid defenses. Defense aircraft operate at high altitude and use look down, shoot down long range missiles to kill ground attack aircraft.
And some EU designed planes operate from unimproved runways or highways.
How does one “lease” something that belongs to their primary source of funding? Isn’t that “laundering”?
They have a few dozen guys trained on MiG 29’s and some on SU-27’s. They will need conversion training on F-16’s. I suspect thats already going on.
