Thousands of Norton LifeLock customers had their accounts compromised in recent weeks, potentially allowing criminal hackers access to customer password managers, the company revealed in a recent data breach notice.
In a notice to customers, Gen Digital, the parent company of Norton LifeLock, said that the likely culprit was a credential stuffing attack — where previously exposed or breached credentials are used to break into accounts on different sites and services that share the same passwords — rather than a compromise of its systems. It’s why two-factor authentication, which Norton LifeLock offers, is recommended, as it blocks attackers from accessing someone’s account with just their password.
The company said it found that the intruders had compromised accounts as far back as December 1, close to two weeks before its systems detected a “large volume” of failed logins to customer accounts on December 12.
“In accessing your account with your username and password, the unauthorized third party may have viewed your first name, last name, phone number, and mailing address,” the data breach notice said. The notice was sent to customers that it believes use its password manager feature, because the company cannot rule out that the intruders also accessed customers’ saved passwords.

So far, no hackers have managed to access the piece of paper on which my passwords are scribbled.
Life lock used to be good. It stinks now, and I will not renew my membership.
Rather ironic
GPG is good also
I wonder if it’s the government doing the hacking?
How ironic.
Though...people don’t provide them information for safe storage - it is a monitoring service for if someone uses information that was breached they will catch it and stop them in their tracks.
Now that will put this system to the test.
This isn't a company for which you would give them information for safe storage - they monitor to stop people who use information that is stolen to open fake accounts, etc. in their name. Although, your personal account information would be provided to them in order for them to know and be connected to the same in order to monitor it. So now, this system will be put to the test if the information is out there to be used as a result of this breach.
Oh, the irony! It burns
Yet another reason not to get Norton.
I use to have to guide someone in uninstalling it when I worked at Earthlink ISP back in the dialup days. They had a deal with them and we in tech support found out what a pain it was to uninstall.
You first needed to get Norton’s own uninstaller from their website.
I was kinda wondering in the back of my mind when Norton Lifelock would be breached.
Protect your identity . . . oops!
Yeah, no kidding.
And I just saw their commercial about 20 times while watching Fox News over the weekend.
Well, so much for that company....................
Because you forgot where you put it?..................... 😁
I would bet that those 2000 republicans and republican leaning people whose social security number was released by the January 6 committee, I would bet that’s what they wanna do give them a couple of years worth of Norton lifelock
ESPN seemed to have it on a loop when I was sitting at the bar in a restaurant Saturday night. I even commented to my wife about it while sitting there…
Passwords should reflect the site
My Pandora password is AppyPappy_1971_PanDora
Not really but you get the idea
They almost had me thinking of signing up.
Now......?? Not feeling to good about that.
My wife belongs to AARP (I tried to talk her out of it... :-) ) and the the AARP snail mail piece that arrived today featured an ad for Norton Life Lock.
AARP is a crack whore!
I learned years ago to never use any software or service with “Norton” in the name.
They were a long time sponsor of Limbaugh, IIRC.
