“I’m sure we conservatives can agree calling someone… a homosexual is wrong, unless they actually are.“
Conservatives agree that ‘right and wrong’ has no bearing on freedom of speech.
Well, I meant not as something a government should impose, but our own moral code. I think it’s sinful to accuse someone of sexual deviancy just as a taunt from a sports fan.
I’m not debating constitutionality or anything like that. Just, what would Jesus do kind of thinking.
Maybe Hunter Biden?
I’M CHELSEA GIGOLO
AND EV’RYWHERE I GO
BLOKES ALL KNOW THE PART I’M PLAYIN’
PAY FOR EV’RY DANCE
SELLIN’ EACH ROMANCE
OOOOOHHH WHAT THEY’RE SAYIN’
BUT THERE WILL COME A DAY
WHEN YOUTH WILL PASS AWAY
WHAT ‘LL THEY SAY ABOUT ME?
WHEN THE END COMES I KNOW
I’M JUST CHELSEA GIGOLO
THE GAME
GOES ON
WITHOUT ME
Don't know what you consider "downtown London", but there is central London, where all the tourists go, and outside the center where the ordinary folk live.
Got it.
Morality is a standard to which I hold myself, not others. The only exceptions are young children I am responsible for raising, and people who have asked for my moral guidance.
As for other people, whose morality I have no business judging, I hold them to a different standard - a civil standard - and the very highest tenant in that civil standard is liberty - NOT morality.
What this means is that I must tolerate all sorts of speech and even behavior in others that I would not tolerate in myself or my children.
This is very difficult to navigate, because it is tempting to force our views on the world around us. After all, shouldn’t we have a right to live on a world free of perversion and corruption?
The answer is NO. We can lead by example, and seek associations with those of like mind. We can avoid associating with those behaving in ways we would not behave. But we should not enforce our morality non others.
So you might ask - what about the fact that the world around us is descending into perversion and corruption - should we just let it happen? Should we let the public schools pervert our children? Should we let Hollywood, Academia and the fake news media lie and brainwash without pushing back?
No! That’s not what I’m saying. The problem with the world today is not too much evil, but rather too much delegation.
We shouldn’t have settled for a public education monopoly where we send our children to public schools to be educated by teachers unions - unaccountable government bureaucrats - and then go complain maybe once a year at a school board meeting. We should be educating our own children - or if we do delegate it, delegate it to teachers whom we know, have truly vetted and can trust.
We should not have settled for huge media monopolies, whose version of current happenings is corrupt and agenda driven. We should never have stopped questioning what is reported - never have stopped finding out fir ourselves what the truth is.
Yes the world is descending into chaos - but it’s not because of too much evil - it’s because people are too lazy to find out whether or not our children are being taught the truth, and whether or not the fake news is reporting the truth.
I know people who would rather check the weather by looking on their smart phone rather than looking out the window.
They don’t intend to stop; they intend to remake our language in their own way (to push their own agenda while stifling opposition).
Great post! Thanks!
Thanks - I guess I got on quite a rant there. Reading it over, it sounds a lot more didactic than I intended - I was mostly sorting out my own thoughts - not trying to tell you anything. :-)
No problem!
These “sorting out” posts are often the best of Free Republic, in my honest opinion. And I’ve been here for 25 years.
Your post here was very informative on the ways a modern, logical human being should be thinking.
