What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.

“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.

For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.

“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.

Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

The cat was wishful thinking on my part! I really didn’t want to get up, but now the laundry is done and I’ll be going in for a nap in a bit.

I hope you’re rested after your trip, and the angst of not being able to take your van. I didn’t ask if Tom went along. He’s probably too new on the job to go on vacation so soon.

My left thumb and index finger feel like everything has sharp points on it when I touch it. Including the keyboard keys.

We had a very warm Saturday, but it cooled off for Mother’s Day. We did Mother’s Day early for the in-laws since their favorite restaurant wasn’t doing take-out on Sunday. They seemed to really enjoy the dinner.

So now it’s on to the next week. Mid-May already. How DOES that happen?

And a decent start to today’s Wordle, although not as good as some peoples’.

Interesting thought, and well worth consideration.

I saw a YouTube video yesterday where someone was saying the problem with today’s kids is that they have no idea how to handle disappointment. So they overreact.

I’m sure somewhere in all this is the real truth that they are raised without a real faith. And if all they have to hope for is the best people can do, well, what kind of hope is that?

Patrick is a stranger to a shower? Oh, dear. My sensitive nose would force me to keep him downwind of me!

Pam will be here soon, and I’m going to ask her to run me by quick care to pick up the x-ray protocol. Why it wasn’t sent to the doctor who ordered it is beyond me. So I’ll have to scan it and send it to him when I get back from lunch.

I got the dainties hung up, but the bed is still waiting for me get it made. I’m really looking forward to bedtime tonight, for sure! I’m still stressed over yesterday.

There is a card from you as well as one from Charlie. A while back, I send him several of my return address stickers in case he ever wanted to write to me. He used one!

There’s also a card from my niece in Pleasant Grove (UT.) They moved out of CA in 2019 because of the political situation. She usually send gifts I don’t need and can’t use, so I’m glad to see it’s just a card this time! ;o]
