omicron subvariant XBB.1.5 Really? Really? Do these people stay up at night dreaming up names like this? This sounds like an old "Get Smart" episode.
Did they conference inside "the cone of silence" when they came up with this "name"?

I'm more interested in how they isolate the supposed variations so fast. I would think that, in order to identify a genuine variant, you'd have to be constantly collecting samples from people who were verified to have COVID (and how to verify THAT when a person is infected with a variant that you're not testing for specifically, is a separate question) and then analyze the genome for the variation. Since we've already allegedly had several variants, and now they are claiming specific sub-variants, that is a lot of analysis, and given the number of supposedly infected people, most of whom are going to have a known variant, that is a lot of testing for nothing.
But hey, what do I know. I'm just a caveman.
