Bible in a Year:
Save me, Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
“Christian consciousness begins in the painful realization that what we had assumed was the truth is in fact a lie,” Eugene Peterson wrote in his powerful reflections on Psalm 120. Psalm 120 is the first of the Psalms of Ascents (Psalms 120–134) sung by pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem. And as Peterson explored this in A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, these psalms also offer us a picture of the spiritual journey toward God.
That journey can only begin with profound awareness of our need for something different. As Peterson puts it, “A person has to be thoroughly disgusted with the way things are to find the motivation to set out on the Christian way. . . . [One] has to get fed up with the ways of the world before he, before she, acquires an appetite for the world of grace.”
It’s easy to become discouraged by the brokenness and despair we see in the world around us—the pervasive ways our culture often shows callous disregard for the harm being done to others. Psalm 120 laments this honestly: “I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war” (v. 7).
But there’s healing and freedom in realizing that our pain can also awaken us to a new beginning through our only help, the Savior who can guide us from destructive lies into paths of peace and wholeness (121:2). As we enter this new year, may we seek Him and His ways.
Reflect & Pray
How have you become accustomed to destructive ways? How does the gospel invite you into ways of peace?
Loving God, help me yearn for and work for Your ways of peace through the power of Your Spirit.
Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
And a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Hope you are having a relaxing weekend.

a peaceful and prosperous week.
Prayers for our troops, veterans, families, allies, friends, and Canteeners

Howdy, Kathy.
A bit of a blizzard up there this afternoon. brrrrrrrr You have a break now but more is on the way.
Just what y’all needed.
Just cold here but at least there’s no wind today.
Keep the Lord’s Day in the Lord’s way.
A blessed Second Sunday after the Epiphany (some Western) or Baptism of Our Lord (other Western)/29th Sunday after Pentecost (Orthodox) to all!
He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
Still cold and wet, but tolerable.
At least i don’t have to shovel “Cold and Wet”. :-)
Back is improving, now it’s my knees and neck. Grrrrrrr.
Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Has your snow and sleet stopped? Temps coming up?
We just had a couple hours of gentle snow. I wasn’t expecting it.
God Bless our military men and women who have given their all.
Thanks, unique.
Hey there, Kathy.
Yes, all the snow is well past TN now. We got next to nothing here though. It’s still cold since the clouds didn’t move out until late in the afternoon and we had little sunshine to warm us up.
The snow was coming down hard at the airports for a little while. Pretty to watch on the screen but I was glad it was there and not here. LOL
No wind always helps...
I hadn’t heard of snow for today, but...I see the forecast has changed to a bit more snow.
None of last night’s corn has been touched, but I haven’t seen a body. So maybe everyone just stayed in the creek and are safe, but hungry.
Good evening, lightman, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours,
And a blessed Second Sunday after the Epiphany (some Western) or Baptism of Our Lord (other Western)/29th Sunday after Pentecost (Orthodox).
How is your stove doing? Resting, or hard at work?
