NYT: Special Counsel Inquiry Leaves Biden and Garland in Awkward Spots
The New York Times via Yahoo ^ | January 13, 2023 | By Glenn Thrush, Peter Baker and Charlie Savage

WASHINGTON — A new special counsel investigation into the discovery of classified documents in President Joe Biden’s home and office puts both him and his attorney general in awkward positions as another special counsel investigates his predecessor for his own mishandling of secret papers.

Although the circumstances of the cases involving Biden and former President Donald Trump are markedly different, as a political matter, the new inquiry will muddy the case against Trump, who is already using it to argue that he is being selectively persecuted by the administration of a president he plans to challenge in 2024.

Attorney General Merrick Garland sought to insulate the Justice Department from accusations of partisanship by picking Robert Hur, a veteran prosecutor and Trump appointee, to scrutinize the handling of papers by Biden’s team. The decision comes as the new GOP majority in the House embarks on an aggressive examination of what it says is the Biden administration’s use of government power against Republicans.

The White House promised to fully cooperate while insisting prosecutors would find only unintentional errors. People close to the situation said several Biden associates had already been interviewed.

“We are confident that a thorough review will show that these documents were inadvertently misplaced, and the president and his lawyers acted promptly upon discovery of this mistake,” Richard Sauber, a White House lawyer overseeing responses to investigations, said in a statement.

the DOJ conducts political investigations for two reasons

One is to gather evidence, manufacture headlines and leaks for the media for persecution of political targets

The other is to find out what information is out there, who knows what, put a fence around it - and SUPPRESS it.

the DOJ will do that latter with Biden, although its the biggest risk to Garland, who has stuck his neck out to harass Trump on his “confidential documents”

How so? We’ve already gotten what the bottom line will be. INADVERTANTLY moved there accidentally by a staffer without joementias knowledge. The staffer is long gone so...... “I’m sorry!”. Case closed. Because joementia really really really cares about classified documents. REALLY!

Post of the day methinks. That is exactly what will happen, is happening. It is also why the left hid the facts for 2 months (and I’m suspicious that some rinos might have onown about it and said nothing too) so that. They could, concoct a good enough cover story, and find the right special prosecutor once it broke

The investigation IS the coverup.

Or, its a ruse to get rid of Biden, clearing the way to indict Trump and not look biased. The uniparty would celebrate and heels up would be on top.

Garland’s only problem is how to get MSM on board with the coverup and delay for a couple of years.

Don’t think that’s much of problem . . .

Awkward in the sense that everybody knows the disgruntled Garland (failed USSC Nomination) wouldn’t DARE appoint any Special Counsel who would contemplate coming up with anything damaging?

For Biden it’s awkward. For Trump it’s an offense.

Disagree. This help Garland (see I’m investigating Democrats too!). He can put on a big show of it, appear unbiased, and come out looking saintly.

Actually... It leaves the New York Times in an awkward spot as well... They’ve been calling Trump criminal and treasonous for having classified docs in his possession... So why aren’t they calling out Biden our for criminality and treason?

“Although the circumstances ... are markedly different” is the left’s talking point.

Yes and every congressional investigation will get stiff armed because the admin can’t answer due to the special counsel.

Bingo.

DOJ: "Due the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, we cannot provide any documentation to the Congressional committee at this time".
