Vladimir Putin will seek to nominate his chosen successor this year amid heavy losses on the battlefield, Abbas Gallyamov, his former speechwriter, said
Putin's circle no longer see him as a 'guarantor of stability' and are alarmed by the rise of Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the well-armed Wagner private army, which is so far loyal to the Kremlin but could turn on an elite seen as failing in the war, Gallyamov said.
They fear being slaughtered with Prigozhin's sledgehammer - the extrajudicial punishment given to his jail convict soldiers who refuse to fight or seek to defect to Ukraine.
One of Prigozhin's former Wagner mercenaries, who changed sides in the Ukraine war, Yevgeny Nuzhin, 55, had his head taped to a brick wall and was beaten to death with a sledgehammer in November when he was captured by his former colleagues.
Prigozhin praised the defector's execution and said that a 'dog receives a dog's death' in response to the video of Nuzhin being bludgeoned to death.
Since Putin's war began, Putin's allies like Prigozhin and Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov have begun jockeying for power and prominence, suggesting that they could one day want to supplant him.
It comes as Putin was accused of 'driving his own people to slaughter by the thousands' in his drive to secure the key settlement of Soledar in eastern Ukraine.
Putin has seen his popularity plummet after his army has seen a series of devastating losses on the battlefield.
Gallyamov said: 'The apparatus looks at Prigozhin and stops seeing Putin as guarantor of their stability.

The Ukraine is having a few generations of its men stolen, thrown into the wood chipper needlessly. Normally, losing the way the Ukraine has been doing for some time, leads those in charge to stop and negotiate peace to spare the populace. But the neo Nazis military are taking orders from NATO so the last of the Ukrainian civilians will be destroyed in this bloodbath.

- Russian operations are consistent with the “demilitarization” objective for the special military operation;
- Bakhmut & Soledar are fortified cities along one of Ukraine’s last defensive lines in the Donbass region;
- West is announcing plans to send Western main battle tanks including Challenger 2 and Leopard 2 tanks;
- Challenger 2 and Leopard 2 tanks use different ammunition & both require an additional crew member (loader) increasing training demands for Ukrainian forces;
- The large variety of equipment the West is sending will create additional burdens for Ukrainian forces without any notable benefit;
- Western main battle tanks have proven to be vulnerable to (Russian-made) modern anti-tank weapons even under relatively ideal conditions;
- Ukrainian forces will be going into battle without sufficient artillery or air cover and facing off against Russian forces reinforced with an additional 300k men, new defenses, and an influx of new weaponry;

Throughout this war, the idiots at the Daily Mail have told us that Putin was dead and Russia using a body double for him. That he had blood, stomach and thyroid cancer. That he had Parkinson's. That he needed surgery after falling down stairs and sh$tting his pants.
Yet, within the last month or so, Putin has held five hour press conferenece/Q/A sessions, chaired meetings with cameras present, visited the frontlines in Bakhmat and appeared in a video dressed as Santa.
