Attorney General Merrick Garland names Robert Hur special counsel to probe Biden classified docs

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday he had appointed a special counsel to investigate how classified documents ended up at an office President Biden used at his namesake think tank in Washington, DC, and his home in Delaware.

Republicans called on Garland to name a special counsel to examine whether the Obama-era documents were mishandled by Biden following revelations this week that a box containing classified documents were discovered in a locked closet in an office the president used at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement on Nov. 2, just days before the midterm elections.

Then on Thursday, Biden, 80, confirmed reports that emerged Wednesday that more classified records were found in his Delaware home where he stores his prized Corvette.

“I also said we’re cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department’s review. As part of that process, my lawyers reviewed other places where documents might — from my time as vice president — were stored and they finished the review last night. They discovered a small number of documents with classified markings in storage areas and file cabinets in my home and my personal library,” Biden told reporters on Thursday.

Garland had previously tapped the US Attorney in Chicago, John Lausch, to review the classified documents found at the Penn Biden Center.

In November, Garland named veteran prosecutor Jack Smith as special counsel to determine whether former President Donald Trump should face charges after classified documents recovered at his Florida resort in August.

Do you really think his lawyers are such honest and virtuous people that they found this stuff and threw their boss (and supposedly most powerful man on earth) under the bus?

Either Biden is in on this and it is pretext to go after Trump harder OR Biden is not in on it and it is pretext to get Biden out of the next election.

What it ISN’T, is an honest mistake that the swamp is trying to rectify. Being shocked that the FBI isn’t treating Republicans the same as Democrats is a very 2015 way of thinking.

I don’t see how you deducted that from my post. I was clearly agreeing with you, and only added that until Biden is actually raided, this is all just a phony play.

I’ll add to that, his lawyers need to be raided, too, to match what they did to Trump. Instead, Biden’s lawyers are being placed on a pedestal of virtue.

That doesn’t mean Biden himself is even involved in what is going on, or how it will all turnout, but this was clearly not just some virtuous act of Biden’s lawyers, who should now be allowed to continue to search for classified documents they’re not cleared to handle.

Your posts assume that we have a functioning legal system. That is a very 2015 way of looking at the world.

NOTHING official happens without the approval of the people pulling Biden’s strings (whatever you want to call that group of people...”deepstate”, “Globohomo”, “the swamp”, etc...)

Someone very powerful, very connected and not on our side orchestrated the release of the existence of these files. It is not just “for show” or “unfair”.

It is plot and a trap.

No, they don’t. I’ve been very clear that this is all a phony show act, the way the information has been presented, and it has so far played out. If it was on the up and up, there wouldn’t be such a huge double standard between how Trump and Biden have been treated with regard to this.

It wouldn’t be the final application of justice, but it would be a step in that direction. The lack of any raids is one of the key pieces of evidence that indicates this is all an act. That was my only point, which remains quite valid.

You on the other hand, appear to be convinced that Biden is being setup, and you now have even gone so far to infer that even if he eventually gets raided, and even goes to jail for it, justice will not have been served. Essentially saying that Biden is a victim here, and is being setup, or trapped, that there is no possible way he stole those documents, etc. Without really presenting any actual evidence of that prognostication, especially at this point in the play.

So at this point, it is clear we don’t actually agree, other than what has been presented so far appears to be a phony operation. I don’t agree that it’s certain this will take out Biden, that remains to be seen. But if it does, I also don’t agree we can assume that makes him a victim, who’s been unfairly “trapped” as you said.

I didn’t specifically mean a trap for Biden. I meant for Trump or Trump supporters or maybe Biden too. I’m not sure what the purpose is yet but I do know the sides.

While the lack of FBI raids is somewhat noteworthy (although predictable), the most key piece of evidence is that this was all started by Biden’s attorneys. They found the documents and voluntarily turned them over. That is the lynch pin.

Lawyers are under no compunction to reveal crimes committed by their clients. Biden has the slimiest, swampiest lawyers in the world. They did this for a purpose.

Biden is not calling any shots. He is leading nobody. Nobody is afraid of him. His attorneys do not answer to him. They answer to someone else. Whether that is Dr. Jill or Obama or Valerie Jarrett or Susan Rice or Hillary or someone else, I don’t know. But I know they are not working for Biden.

It wouldn’t surprise me if all of a sudden the deep state (and the media, and the political pundits, and the GOPe, and the DNC and the tech companies) all of a sudden decide that having documents like this is REALLY, REALLY bad and neither Trump nor Biden is fit to hold office again. That would work out perfectly for the swamp, wouldn’t it?

You obviously don't know me, or my posting history. Which is simply more proof the only one making assumptions in this discussion, is you my friend. And you've been making an awful lot, especially in your attempts to belittle me, for simply stating it's too early to know exactly how this will play out.

But I never did that. I said without the raid, and them simply leaving it up to Biden's shyster lawyers, is proof this is an act, and proof there is a double standard in how Republicans are treated. You took offense to that, it now appears because I didn't go so far and try to insist it all proves that Biden is being setup, because we don't know that yet. There probably are mysterious masters running this op, but there's no proof of what they are up to, exactly.

It wouldn't surprise me either. If you had simply agreed to to the point I was willing to agree to, originally, and then made this comment, then the discussion would have been a normal pleasant one with us discussing potential ways it may play out from here. But, instead, you chose to accuse me of being "2 steps behind" and of "making assumptions" repeatedly when clearly you are the only one making assumptions.

It could be this takes Biden out. It could be it kills both Biden and Trump with one stone. We simply don't know. It could also be a plan to give the impression that they held Biden to the same standard they're holding Trump too, but declare them both innocent on this one potential offense - document handling - knowing they still have other potential offenses they can use to take Trump out. I'd say that's more likely. And if that is the case, then it's no "trap" of Biden, as you kept insisting. It's a way for the DOJ to appear they are being fair, while still getting Trump.

Not that Biden won't step aside, eventually, he may or he may not. But there's no reason he has to be perp walked out of the White House, just to get Trump. To assume that, as you clearly have, isn't considering all the options well enough yet I don't think. Including others we haven't posted yet here.
